Yankee is a pretty universally used as a term for American but it's not really meant to be rude, but only Anglos and Anglo-wannabes use it as an insult. Russians, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Serbs, etc. all have their own special insult for Americans.

Yeah, jenķi (yankees) used to be a fairly common slang term for Americans. Haven't heard it much lately though.
