How many castles does your country have?
Castles
63
something in the neighborhood of 420
absolute state of the south
dunno gonna build one, any recs?
Kinda disappointed in Wales. I thought they were way up there.
Zero. Should we build some? A 21st century castle might be a cool concept. You could probably use technology to make it seem "magic" in certain ways but it might be lame
>the only none yellow area in the South
Any Kent lads in?
arent prisons basically castles of sorts? you have a lot of those
just a thought, but you don't build doors in the center of your living room, do you?
According to the list of National Heritage Institute therr are 1187 chateaux and 932 castles in Czechia.
A few thousand, I wasnt able to find a clear number for it.
If we expand it to all kinds of fortifications, its 40 000 apparently though.
No way the Outer Hebrides have that many castles, there's like 50 people who live there
What do you consider a proper castle?
Anyway somewhere around the thousands
>new worlders
Any big old house counts as a """castle""" in Scotland.
you know, a nobleman's house could in fact count as a proper castle with the proper accoutrements
Between 20-39 according to the map. Sounds about right. I have 2 a few miles in either direction of me. Mostly norman watch towers, to varying degrees of preservation.
how many are fully intact would you say?
173, according to gradovi.net (castles.net)
We do actually have something like that in my city, it use to be bigger but they knocked it down for a science lab.
So many that a big part of our country is named after the word "castles".
gotta defend against the moorish hordes
we have the castle
Pretty sure there's more than 9 in Norfolk. The city of Norwich is literally built around a Norman castle.
Quite a few. There used to be one in my village but only a small ruin remains. The name for the small hill where the castle used to stand remains; Gradiš(č)e, which literally means hillfort and which is a common name for a number of hills in the area where the old settlements used to be. The castle in question was built on one such hill by some small-time knight.
I like this one
Oh yeah, forgot to add, pic unrelated. Ours is just a few stones, you wouldn't know it's there in the middle of the woods if you didn't hear about it (or considered the name of the hill, if you knew about it).
That one has the added bonus of being built atop a rock overlooking such a beautiful lake. My favourite is another cliche answer, the Predjama castle.
The map seems to not count castle ruins/unmaintained forts. Wales also has much more substantial fortications than the North (Caerphilly, Caernarfon, Conwy etc. )
Quite a lot, I guess.
here in italy we have quite a lot
most castles in Ireland are quite ruinous. But they're cool to walk around in and there are ruins all over the place
Ireland seems more castle dense than Britain here. How the FUCK did we get raped so hard throughout history?
Because the castles where built by the rapists
They are plenty of ruins/iron age hill fort remains but thanks to Cromwell most castles where slighted
late adoption of the concept of ownership
I think we can win this, just searched an the total is 8575
theres one a 5 minute walk from me that was built in the 19th century but theres been a castle or monastery there for over 1000 years
about a 10 minute drive theres a ruined castle that is meant to be haunted
One
based and redpilled
I think this counts every isolated walled fortification as a castle because as much as I'd like to brag it's way too high
>His town is not inside a fortification
We dont have a lot, but the ones we have are nice
just around 70 were destroyed during the 15the century in my region and only a few restored
pic related was ironicalle called Rocha Forte (strong rock)
My town IS inside YOUR fortification :^) if you catch my drift
makes sense since a very large number of old towns are fortified
Thats a house, a castle is a military fortification, not something with windows on the bottom floor
Makes sense. We have those too
But lets be honest they look depressive af
Cringe
Over 400.
A bunch.
Disney world doesn't count.
