To be fair, I couldn't really understand what he was saying. I also regularly speak to ESLs with pretty heavy accents and this one was pretty bad.

You can usually pick up on what the person is trying to say even if you don't completely understand him. It works the same when you have foreigners trying to speak to you, doesn't it?

yeah, because japanese grammar is completelly diferent than european grammar.

Is very easy for me to guess another romance meaning simply because our languages work very similarly.

I even have trouble reading japanese because even if I can understand the meaning of words, they just come isolated and I'm lost sometimes.

Those aren't figures of speech you fucking retard, they're forms of rhetoric. A figure of speech is any idiomatic phrase or construction that involves a comparison (i.e. metaphor).
