Aristocracy still exists, but does not have the power it once had in the past. They are mostly just people from old money that have powerful positions in society, but don't flaunt their wealth. They seem like normal people to you, but they can immediatelly tell that you are not one of them by your actions alone. Behind closed doors they are a sekrit klub with strict rules and lots of trend following where they like to think that they are above the rest of the plebs.

Can you tell a poor person who became rich, from a rich person who was born like it.
Lets say one "äristocrat" is worth 100 billion dollars and was born into the money. And another "äristocrat" was born poor and became as rich as the other guy.
What will differentiate them from one another? How could a poor born äristocrat be different when he walks into a room full of rich born ones?

Like said, "new money" likes to flaunt their wealth, this is a big no no in upper class society. There is no way to "get into" the "aristocracy", you have to be born into it. You can't get into the aristocracy, but your children might. If you want your children to become aristocracy, you have to send them to the same private schools as the rest of the aristocracy does and have them grow up with the other aristocratic children and learn the etiquette and manners.

I also said that trends are a big thing. Essentially everything that the plebs like is shit that you should not partake in. Golf used to be the go-to hobby for the upper class, but since it has gotten so popular with regular people and new money, it is not "cool" anymore. Hunting is still considered a good hobby.

Being upper class is all about the GOOD expensive shit, new money thinks that expensive = good. The upper class will buy expensive good cars that don't stand out too much, but will never ever buy super expensive sport cars.

Manners and etiquette is a big thing. There are a thousand small rules that you have to follow and you can immediatelly tell that someone is a pleb if they unknowingly break one of them.

One funny thing is the whole shoes indoors debate. People think Americans are weird because they wear their shoes indoors, but in European upper society it is considered rude to expect your guests to take off their shoes when they visit you. The idea is that everyone should have good shoes that they specificially wear for when they visit someone. The whole thing about the upper class not having to walk in mud back in the day also factor in.

Finally. People in the upper class NEVER EVER own a grill, eats grilled food let alone prepare their food outside. Food is made inside on a stove or inside an oven. Expensive grills are a clear sign of new money people who like to flaunt their wealth.
