In Curie's case, it's not France's fault it was such an attractive country for scientists. But unlike Lagrange, I wouldn't claim her as French.

The fact is that France at that time was literally a magnet for thinkers, just as Usa was in the past century, especially in front of a fallen and poor italian peninsula.
