There is a French ethnicity, but it only extends to the lands in yellow. The other "French" territories are inhabited by people who were subjugated by the French man, and made to think that they are French.

Africans only had the language forced on them. There is a difference.
African poets who write in French, like Leopold Sedar Senghor, write about things that are typically African, such as négritude. They don't consider themselves French.

If that's what you meant, then your original post is misleading. There's assimilated Africans in France, but that doesn't mean anyone in West Africa considers himself French. Finland was also colonized by Swedes and Russians, do you consider yourselves Swedish/Russian?
