Yes they do + they're not "de souche", they're mostly from spanish and portuguese descent.

I bought 5 or 6 books and downloaded 15+ apps. So far the best book by far is Painless French and the best apps are Duolingo and Easy French Stories. The latter is $7.50 CAD (so like 5€) for every 3 stories but it's well worth it.
By the time you finish half of the Duolingo tree, most of the book, and half of a dozen short stories, you will start to be able to effectively read books, articles, etc., that you can download for free.
