Why do Americans keep telling me that guns are banned in Australia? Who is feeding them these blatant lies?

they just repeat everything that fox news say to them
this honestly
americans believe they are the only people on earth that can own guns
No I saw a Canadian with one once so Canada is white and based
I know that feel, I have 2 shotguns and a rifle and a yank will still shout NOGUNS at me
It's not just right-wing people who seem to believe this. A lot of the lefties who want to mimic us seem to think the same
Yeah who the fuck started this shit? There are people here that legally own like 100 guns lmao
To an American, anything short of an unlocked drawer full of loaded handguns and a semi-automatic rifle with the safety off at the foot of the bed is gun grabbing communism.
Noknives
...
same here, if there aren't mass shootings they think there are no guns
lmao
I have a vast collection of melee weapons my slavic friend
Just wondering, do you have a license? As in, do you need one?
They also cite us has an example of country with guns that is peaceful. But you can't conceal carry here and we don't sell guns to retards / crazy people
but communists are the ones that advocate the most lenient gun laws, they think the entire population should be armed and trained as a militia.
No you don't need a fucking license you just need to be over 18
So where does the meme come from?
Retard americans mostly
TV license billboards I think
you can own some pretty mean guns here too and we're free from any shootings
What are you all talking about? You need a license, and you can't get a license for the purpose of self-defence.
>A person must have a firearm licence to possess or use a firearm. Licence holders must demonstrate a "genuine reason" (which does not include self-defence) for holding a firearm licence[1] and must not be a "prohibited person". All firearms must be registered by serial number to the owner, who also holds a firearms licence.
Needing a license =/= guns are banned to the public, you fucking meatball
just means there are more legal hoops to jump through
That's because self-defence is not considered a legitimate reason, which it isn't. Americans run around with weapons and sperg out killing people, carriers are a danger to society because there's almost no situation that use of their weapon is valid in.
All the news outlets point to Australia when people claim gun grabbing doesn’t work. They say that Australia was so willing to give up guns that they basically surrendered overnight and now they’re a violence free nation. I don’t know if it’s true and I don’t really care, but that’s what they say.
Hey, maybe in Australia, you only need an empty glass beer bottle to defend yourself, but think about places like eastern europe. Or Detroit
Australia will regret it when President Ping Pong comes to collect money from them
You also can't get them for self-defence purposes, which is one of the two main reasons you are allowed to carry guns in the states (self-defence and defence against a tyrannical government). Putting a million different "hoops" to jump through, as you so homosexually put it, and limiting the reasons you can buy a gun is pretty much the same as a gun ban, when in the end pretty much no one is allowed to buy one.
At the same time, leftists are whining about republicans trying to "ban black people from voting" by simply requiring an ID.
LOL
Except for all the lives saved by people carrying guns. In most cases you don't even need to fire the gun.
CDC has tons of studies on that, and they all show the same thing: the number of lives saved through defensive use of weapons is far greater than the lives lost.
And if you really care about the lives lost due to gun shootings, maybe you should take a look at the black population and why they keep shooting each other up (in democrat cities, where guns are banned...).
unironically what's the point of guns except mass shootings
>But you can't conceal carry here and we don't sell guns to retards / crazy people
If America stop selling guns to retards the whole industry is out of business in a month.
Mass defending
If an Aussie cannot defend himself by Glassing a cunt, does he truly deserve to live?
Now THAT's the real question here. And to answer it: I'm really not so sure.
the dumbest part is how americans see it as a two way dichotomy where you either ban all guns completely or allow literally everyone, even toddlers, to have one.
even moderately regulating the guns and preventing mentally ill people or people with a criminal history from buying them, i.e. through background checks is too much for americans. probably because american right wingers hope that nutcases and convicted felons will help them in their armed uprising in the future.
Australia's homicide rate is 5.7 times lower than yours.
Consider your opinions on Brazil or Columbia and then realise that you are more dangerous in comparison to Aus than Brazil or Columbia are to you. You would think of them as violent shitholes but they are "only" 5.5 and 4.9 times more dangerous than America.
The American argument against this is:
>who controls da list??? What if i’m disqualified because I went to therapy once??
I live in a state that (now) allows people to carry guns with no registration and no questions asked. When someone tried to propose a mental health list the ads against it were that
what's the point of a gun that you're not allowed to defend yourself with or take anywhere?
I'm going to need some sources on that. Everything I have seen shows that owning a gun makes you more likely to be the victim of a gun crime or accident, I have never seen a single study claimimg that defensive use of guns outweighs lives lost because such a study doesn't exist.
And no, requiring a process that anyone can easily do is not "pretty much the same as a gun ban." It's not 1 million hoops, it's an afternoon class on a saturday with a simple test that no one fails, you don't even have to be literate, they will read the test to you upon request.
I’m just sharing the American culture. People don’t want to acknowledge how much federal lists would help. Even if the guns are illegal, they were imported by criminals and someone would be on the paperwork. Crime would go down a ton if Jamal was arrested because he registered a gun for Tyrone and fell on murder charges
if you work in the woods here you can get permission to carry a big handgun like a .44 to shoot a bear if it attacks you
Hunting, farming stuff.
Hunting, sport shooting, collecting, and investment.
Guns don't work for self-defence. They make you statistically more likely to get shot. It's the equivalent of buying a fire extinguisher that makes your house statistically more likely to catch fire.
Studies suggest that your odds of escaping unharmed, as well as the odds of anyone with you, are lower when using bear spray than a gun. I carry it even when also carrying a gun for hunting. For anyone who cares the bear's mortality rate is obviously much improved as well
true. i'm really happy with out gun laws honestly because you just don't have to worry about them but its more the cherry you put on top of a functional society and government
Well, obviously you haven't looked around.
Like I said, CDC has many studies, just google something like "defensive use arms saved lives US" and you should get plenty. Numbers usually range between 500 000 to 3 000 000 lives saved annually, which you can check against the number of people killed by gun violence in other studies.
The only name I remember at the top of my head is Gary Kleck who has done some studies on this.
And again, if you want to have a gun for self-defensive purposes (why else would you want a gun in the first place?), you're not allowed to get one. I've already posted proof of that. And when they say that you CAN NOT GET A GUN for self-defence, that's pretty much the same as a gun ban, not 'just another easy hoop to jump through'.
We got rid of our long gun registry and crime didn't spike.
What's most important is who can have guns, why they can have them, which guns they can have, and how they can use them. Lots of western countries have guns available to the public but the things I listed are better controlled than in America.
I keep guns because I hunt, some are family heirlooms, and I enjoy target and skeet shooting. I have never considered defence as a reason to own one. Kleck did those studies almost 30 years ago, they relied on a very specific set of favourable parameters, and self-reported data, and then his findings and methods were promptly laughed at by basically every other criminologist in America.
