/Lang/ is currently short on those image qts, so if you can pitch in to help create one for a given language, don't hesitate to read the OP; nobody embeds anyway and yet here we are embedding!

FAQ:
>How do I learn a language? What is the best way to learn one? How should I improve on certain aspects?
Ideally take a class, otherwise buy (torrent) a well-received textbook for your language, google any grammar you have trouble with and no matter what do lots of translation exercises. If you use Duolingo, use other resources and google anything you don't understand, definitely don't just memorize answers for the sake of completing lessons but post an apu if you actually read this but I doubt it
>Will I learn a language by using Duolingo five minutes a day while taking a shit
depends how many shits
>Should I learn X to get a qt wife/gf (male) etc?
You won't
>Should I learn X because of my heritage
learn Y instead

>What language should I learn
Romanian _and_ Dutch
>I just want something easy and somewhat useful
Russian
>I want a language that's useful and fun but not too hard
Persian
>I want a language that's useful and embrace a challenge

Come stai?

essayez de faire reply à mon interrogation svp

Ask it here anyway.
>Hoewel het niet koud is, draagt zij een jas.
>hoewel het niet koud is
I know that this is coming from "het is niet koud." Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's okay to write like "het is koud niet." So if I apply that sentence with subordinate conjunction, am I wrong for writing this?
>hoewel het koud is niet, draagt zijn een jas
Or welp, is
>hoewel Ik het eten eet niet, eet zij dat
right?

I was just about to reply to your old one
>I think it's okay to write like "het is koud niet."
no, that's not correct
that sentence in it's simple form would be "het is niet koud"

an easy way to think of it, although I'm sure there's going to be exceptions is that when you "reverse" the sentence aka throw the verb at the end, the rest stays the same, at least in this case

het [is] niet koud
het niet koud [is]
hoewel het niet koud is [bla bla]
see? the rest stays the same here

ik [eet] mijn lunch niet
ik mijn lunch niet [eet] - again, stays the same
hoewel ik mijn lunch niet eet [bla bla]

Ahhhh thanks a lot. I thought "niet" was something that you should always put at the end of sentences.

>always
mmm no not really, but sometimes you do indeed; negations are a bit tricky to get a grip on

for example:
ik eet [niet] -> I don't eat
ik eet mijn lunch [niet] -> I don't eat my lunch
hij is [niet] hier -> he is not here
..but you could just as well say
hij is hier/er [niet] -> he is not here/there
dat is [niet] mijn boek -> that is not my book
[niet] vergeten om [...] -> don't forget to [...]
ik hou er [niet] van -> I don't like that

look into Dutch negation a bit more and understand when to use niet, where to put it, and when to use geen

Spanish speakers help me out, are "pelo" and "cabello" synonyms? Do they both translate as "hair"?

translation challenge
Whenever I see you Chino-chan, my heart starts beating furiously.

Since I've held it in all this time, won't you become mine just once? You constantly show off your plump thighs and I can't take it anymore...

Well, i Brazilian, and I I speak portuguese, but I lived in the boarder and this are some of the thing Spanish has in common with Portuguese.

Cabello( In spanish), Cabelo (in portuguese) - is only for what you have in your head, above your ears let's say, cause beard or and mustache aren't cabello. Beard is Barba and mustache is bigode, both in Spanish and portuguese.

Pelo would be better translated as fur, any type, from parts of the body to animals, your cabello is a pelo with a fancy name.

Well, it's a silly example and idk if in Spanish this is the same but pubic hair is called pelos pubianos ou pelos púbicos.

If you have a wife, why would you waste your time here instead of doing those things to her?

I don't know so much about French music, all I know about it is just the national anthem of Republic of France.
Je ne s'y connaît pas en musique française, tout que je connais en ça, c'est justement le chant national de la République Français.

why do you use ように?
and what is チラチラと?

>唸るように
>as my heart is yelling and roaring for yearning for you
This is my own way of translating "furiously".
>チラチラと
I'm always puzzled at how fucking difficult it is to delineate our characteristic onomatopee and their accurate nuances.
well, it may means "flittering", "exposing the figure a bit, faintly, tantalizing" in this context

Cuándo te veo, Señorita China, mi corazón se empezar late furiosamente.

Porque lo he contenido todo este tiempo, no se pondría mio?

This is awful and I won't (can't) do more.

were you able to understand what I'd meant at ?

yes.
but i dont know what is ように、 how to use in sentence etc...

"ように" can be interpreted as a counterpart of "like, as".
唸る=to roar, moan
thus "唸るように" means "like roaring"

is chino san a trap??

Write a short text about a city in the country whose language you're learning(If you're learning a conlang or extinct language you can do it about a city that is connected to your lang in some way or about any random city at all) It doesn't matter what you write, it can be about its history, your experiences there, how you don't like the city because it brings up memories of your creepy uncle, anything

>not learning finnish

of course the dutchman has to eventually cave in and organize everything and do all the work nice and tidy
>you don't like the city because it brings up memories of your creepy uncle

I have nearly finished reading my first book in French, I simultaneously feel like the coolest guy ever but also the biggest wanker ever

congrats my dude

what book? how was the experience?

It's a novel about a jazz musician called Un Soir Au Club, I'd never heard of it but it was recommended to me.

The first couple of chapters were very difficult because I had never encountered literary French before. It is almost like an entirely different dialect, using conjugation and tenses that are never used in spoken French and I had never encountered before. But once I learned those tenses it got pretty smooth, and now by the end of the book I reckon I can read it maybe 60-70% as fast as I can read English.

Of course there are tonnes of vocabulary words that I don't know, when I first started I was looking up every single one but now I just try to read on, only stopping to look them up if I lose track of what's going on or if the word comes up again and again

I should have learned Spanish.

no

Why not?

Because I said no

I have interest in these languages:

-Italian
-German
-French
-Finnish
-Turkish
-Japanese
-Polish

Opinions? Which one should I go with?

German

>Finnish
based

But probably German if I had to choose from that list

Plan to work at Home Depot?

What about those particular languages interest you? I guess go with the one that has the bigger advantages and one that you will really love learning and start from there.

Hebrew

Thanks Vader

>I guess go with the one that has the bigger advantages

Kind of hard to determine this as an English speaker. I don't really NEED to learn any of these, but as I said I have interest in all of them on some level and it's been a bit difficult to try to figure out which one I want to commit to. I'm really wishy-washy in general and this is no different.

Why is Spanish not on your list? Just curious since it's probably the most important 2nd language in this country.

then...as a Japanese I recommend that you should study my language, if you are interested in watching animes and playing eroge/gyaruge in original text or voice, I don't find out other advantages of studying Japanese for ordinary persons who aren't interested in Japanese great classic literature or relationship between your cunt and Japan in terms of trade, academy, etc.

not Finnish

that's Darth Vader to you

now this is confusing~

Well when I say advantages, I don't mean "need" as in need to live your life, but which ones that will open up new worlds to you that you want to experience.
e.g. Hypothetically
Italian: "I plan to travel to Italy and experience the culture and food"
German: "I work in an environment where there are many German speakers and wish to communicate with them in German"
Finnish: "My SO is Finnish and I want to learn their native tongue"
Japanese: "I want to enjoy Japanese media in its original form"
Weigh out which ones would give you the benefits you want and go for that one as your no. 1 choice.

>>Japanese: "I want to enjoy Japanese media in its original form"
>implying weebs ever get to this level
Also just a friendly reminder the voice acting in a large amount of subbed anime is atrocious and sometimes even worse than the dub, somehow foreigners don't realize highschool girls going "EHHHHHH?!?!??!!?!?!" at the top of their lungs every three seconds at an octave higher than a cat's voice isn't normal speech

>highschool girls going "EHHHHHH?!?!??!!?!?!" at the top of their lungs every three seconds at an octave higher than a cat's voice isn't normal speech
>exclaiming so every three seconds
from my own experience, I judge you as over-dreaming.
Actual JKs are not so cute and bright as you might think, there is no hope in the world

wat

that's the reality deal with it
how could real JKs use so cute and attractive voices which appear in animes?
Japanese reality isn't so different than murica's reality, what a grotesque actuality this world imposes on us

No I mean I don't understand what you're saying. It seems like you're agreeing with my point but are arguing against what you thought I said

By the word "over-dreaming", I meant that there is no girl who is always talking in the way you mentioned in fact.
I just wish there would be such, but wish is just wish, we cannot make it come true.

I know, that's what I was saying
