Fun fact: the airport is technically located in Spanish territory, the Gibraltar isthmus, which wasn't covered by the Treaty of Utrecht. There was two plague outbreaks in the 19th century which led Spain to let Gibraltarian refugees settle on the isthmus, as a humanitarian gesture. When the plague was over, they could go back to Gibraltar.
