silence, Gogi
Pathetic. It’s delicious with some purple horseradish.
Slavic food is very savory, meaty, heavy and filling. There’s an emphasis on pork, dumplings, savory pies, soups and salads with mayonnaise
PTSD material
these eastern european steppe-soups are really good. i mean borshch, solyanka, shchi, that gherkin soup with lots of dill, I keep forgetting the name
also ucha, that fish broth
I dont really know if these soups are Russian (possibly they are), Ukrainian, Ruthenian, Bealarussian or what, can not really tell the difference, to me these people all look (and sound, I speak some Russian) the same, but that these soups are first class is doubtless
Tell me about your food

Traditional Russian food is generally great but the poverty-tier late 19th century and 20th century foods are not.

Borscht
Honestly losing the nearby Russian restaurant was the bigger culinary blow I've had in a while. IT was a classic. There is still a (former) competitor within walking distance but still, I reminisce.
Pic related. Finnish Russian food by Russian immigrants.
The restaurant that closed was unironically called "Pelmenit" (Finnish for "Pelmenis")
Not a dish that photographs well, but damn was it delicious.
Ahhh I love borscht. The tried and tested bar for Russian food: Does it have a Finnish bastardization of the name? For decades we were like the gate for Eastern cuisine into the west.
>The real reason behind the invasion of Crimea
Damn you're lucky. Why did it close?
Nobody knows. It was a classic place in the area which has a reputation for rustic restaurants for historical working folk. I visited there only a month before them closing and didn't see any signs anywhere, though the decor was from the 70s and the rents are getting out of hand. Probably just the 60-70yo Russian immigrants not getting any clue of changing times and internet marketing.
