A while back I fixed New Jersey's horrible flag.

It keeps that odd shade of yellow and blue colors George Washington liked, and it honors the early Nordic settlers.

From CT, lived in NJ for a while, live in NYC now. The yellow in NJ's flag is hideous and it doesn't fit with the other Northeastern 13 colonies flags.

The problem is that you see the flag digitally wayyyy more often than on a flagpole nowadays.
It just looks awful. The new one at least contains some harmony in-between the colours.
I'd also prefer if our flag just was our greater coat of arms

During the Revolutionary War, British ships moved to attack Charleston.
The people there didn't have very much time to build a fort, so they built it out of the only thing they could get to, Palmetto trees.
When the British navy attacked and shot cannons at the fort, the Palmetto trees absorbed the cannon balls and caused it to bounce off the fort. This caused the attack to be unsuccessful and the British navy left.
Also I didn't make this flag, this was a proposal for the South Carolina flag after we seceded in 1861. Pic related eventually won out. Before that, the flag of South Carolina was pic related without the palmetto tree, so just the crescent.

That's technically not a moon either, since the "crescent moon and star" is actually an eclipsed sun which is a Christian symbol from the Byzantine empire. It was adopted by the Ottomans along with the general Byzantine architecture. A Byzantine church is the foundation of what you'd consider a typical mosque to look like.
