I'm from the south and to me Midwestern english sounds nasally. But i don't have a strong southern accent, so I bet to people who have a stronger accent than me I sound nasally

Yanks sound really bent. If I want to throw on a yank accent all I have to do is speak through my nose.

I don't notice it on tv but when people talk in person from outside the south I do notice it.
And the rust belt accent is default, the Northern Midwest (Wisconsin, Northern Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Dakotas) is not in any way default, and even sounds more nasally

I always found kind of funny how both American English and Mexican Spanish are the most nasal dialects of their respective languages. Like there's a ghost in North America that forces people to speak with their noses or something.
