isn't it really hard to get into in america?

I hear it's super easy to get in India and russia but when someone say they graduate from there is usually same experience as plumber maximum off

>isn't it really hard to get into in america?
Absolutely not.

Why not?

it's not that bad, but only 50% of people make it. I got in somehow lmao

>but only 50% of people make it
Which is extremely high.
Just have a pulse and take the MCAT.

>50%
Why the fuck is it so easy, how terrible are americans medics

We have the GAMSAT here

Score decent, apply smart, etc. etc. Real problem is that congress hasn't expanded residency spots since the 90s. all the admins here are doom and gloom about how we're not going to get residencies.

h-hha-ha....ha....

What is the system in Europe? Don't you apply to medical school after your equivalent of high school? Americans have to complete college first

Yet you still take thousands of imgs every year

It's been six years since I got into med school. After 2.5 tiresome years at the uni/lab and 2.5 more years with time split at uni/hosp I finished my courses. Only to get a shitty diploma and start my internship.
It was a year of hell, staying on the hospital every 3rd day. No stop work.
Now, I'm starting my social service in a rural clinic with not enough medicines and a fuckton of flu-pested injuns. Nine months of this shit so I can finally get my degree as a general practitioner.
Life is pretty funny mate, when I first got out of high school I kinda wanted to be a medic so I applied and got rejected. I joined dental school and got really angry and depressed because I felt like I failed; I applied the next year and I got in, but not because I really wanted to but out of will power and stubbornes.

Sometimes when I wake up after a long journey of reading I ask myself how different would my life be if I'd have decided for another career. I wonder id I'd be happier, healthier or more mentally stable. At 25 yo strangers tell me I look 28; this lifestyle has already taken its toll.

My friends who got into engineering and other bs careers are already living by themselves and getting married, while I'm stuck at this.

Tell ya what pal: If you don't make it you ain't missing much.

aah ok its quite hard then its ok

in France yeah just after high school you get into first year of med college you work 24/7 and 90% fail and those who pass usually are repeaters then it gets slightly less hellish

Yes, that's because no one wants FM in rural Kansas. There is a merger though between US med schools (MD and DO) and its going to be a clusterfuck with some spots closing down, and it's expected to cut off most IMGs and make the remaining spots uber competitive for US students. I'll be one of the first years to deal with the new system. going to be fun

that's a pretty interesting way to do it. do they start practicing as full doctors in their mid 20s then?

>how terrible are americans medics
I don't know.

it's funny how people are going after Harvard when med schools have blatant preferences. that being said, my class only has 5 black people or so. over-represented people are asians (indians specifically), under-represented are blacks and hispanics.

But that will decrease competition for you and would make it easier to get the residencies you want
Still won't that cause a huge shortage in physicians.

We follow the French system here

Join the military

>But that will decrease competition for you and would make it easier to get the residencies you want
I hope so. I really do. I'm not fighting for some competitive residency though, although the location may make it a pretty tough fight. A lot of classmates want emergency med, and probably only a fraction will make it

>Still won't that cause a huge shortage in physicians.
That's a pretty big topic that comes up often. It's a big argument for NPs and PAs to expand their practicing rights (almost to the point where they are replacing doctors), and I wonder if a crisis will emerge once this wave of elderly pass on and the demand no longer outstrips the supply.

Oh, well I wish you all the best.
Hopefully you'll take the spot you want.

Here you need to do a 4 year bachelor degree first before applying and then after that still almost nobody gets in.

Thank you. I hope IMGs who really want to come and work in America make it, but who knows how this thing will unfold

I heard Canadian med schools are EXTREMELY competitive for some reason

>medicine meme
just drive a forklift m8

>for some reason
Well, maybe because it's flooded with cheating chinks and poos?

The canadian residencies look rather nice. In Mexico you have to get into general surgery in order to become an urologist, or internal medicine in order to become a reumathologist... it's stupid as fuck and makes things even more competitive.

We have a similar system, you have to do IM first before doing a fellowship in subspecialties like cardiology, pulmonology, etc.

I think it's competitive because they don't build many schools, but I'm not sure.

Just become an accountant. Anyone can do it.

It makes it harder to get into but in the long run is a waste. A lot of R1's join thinking they'll do a subspecialty, so they never get fully into their role with hopes of getting accepted the next year into their desired sub.
Furthermore, it the R1-2 is accepted into a subspecialty it created chaos among their superiors since the chain of command will be broken in the next years. So you put a huge workload into a single resident to make up for the one who got away... some hospitals try to avoid this by making exchanges or offering vacan spots, but the ones who take this spots are usually guys who got outlawed by their former institution.
I personally don't agree with that system, but since I aspire to join Orthopedics or Anesthesiology I don't mind.

I wish I could have a longer discussion with you, but I must go to sleep.

I wish you luck on getting into ortho or gas!

this but unironically

Sleep tight pal, and thx for the good wishes.
