Our cities have extremely wide roads and there's lots of cracked asphalt. All the asphalt makes the temperature boiling in the summer.
The old European model is better for a lot of reasons, and I'm not saying that as a euroboo, it's just more practical.
Fortunately Americans have realized that developing the traditional way is better for home/land values, so we've been doing that a lot in the past 10 years.
