It actually is, especially back in the 90s when hard rock was widespread, hard rock bands like Slank or God Bless are often named as the greatest Indonesian musical acts of all time.

In the 2000s rock was still highly popular, but less heavy and more into pop rock. But in the 2010s it saw a significant decline and mainstream Indon music now is comprised of mostly jazzy stuff.

For example this song which was a no. 1 hit and Rolling Stone magazine ranked it as the 8th greatest Indonesian song of all time:
