There is at least one well known instance where America fucked over this place:
Late twenties, a certain banana company that was favored with control over vast zones of our northern territories because of USA and the inherent corruption of our political elites experiences a strike because it keeps workers almost as slaves with the complicity of the local authorities.
American government calls their puppets in Bogota and tells them to get their asses to work to defend American interests in our country as their come first than ours, or else....(supposedly, there was even an invasion threat involved)
The elite's happy because its an opportunity to show how much they hate poor people and the majority of the population so they send the army to stop the strike at any cost
The army arrives and ends up killing hundreds (if not thousands) of people (as the total death toll is disputed) in what it's known as "Banana Massacre" ("La masacre de las bananeras")
They are also suspected of being behind Gaitan's killing in association with the local government because of "muh communism". There's not much problem with killing Gaitan per se as he was shady as heck, but the implicit and real problem with this is that his murder was orchestrated with the
purpose of keeping a small group of corrupt people in power who favored USA over anything else.

The problem is that we've always been the USA's backyard, both left and right wing political parties in latin america are an absolute meme that sell out to the US, this will always be our natural state unless we uncuck ourselves.

You cannot deny that Latin America has been screwed over by the US, but you are right, some won't move on and will blame everything on Americans. Americans are at fault as much as we are at fault for our failures.
You can recognize that Americans were a bunch of dickheads that contributed to some of our current problems and you can also acknowledge that we are guilty of our misfortunes.
