Why can't I get a job, Jow Forums?
Why can't I get a job, Jow Forums?
probably socially retarded.
I'm not even getting interviews.
Freelance motherfucker.
You should try approaching smaller firms then. Go in and have a chat. My sister just got a job that wasn't advertised simply because she saw a talk done by the director of a company and she emailed him asking if there were any opportunities coming up in your company because your values and the direction you're heading is exactly what I'm interested and passionate about. You gotta make it happen bro.
Why aren't you putting corporate references as well my nigga ?
Also, too much text. Be more concise.
Get out your random references.
I can't legally because I don't have enough years of experience to apply to my PE license.
>You should try approaching smaller firms then.
I'll give it another look but I'm not finding any.
Last time I posted my resume they told me to add those references because nobody believed me that I had actually done those things. So which one is it?
Resume looks autistic
Could you be more specific?
What does your cover letter look like? Employers these days care about more than technical skills these days, the larger companies at least. Resumes get thrown out if ur an autist regardless of how good it is. U gotta talk about how u can work well in teams n shit like that
I don't have a censored version of it on me right now, but I can add a paragraph emphasizing my team projects I guess. Its exact content varies from job to job, but most of it is me elaborating on my experience and why it's a good fit for the position.
Get your I.Q professionally tested and put it on your resume, not larping. It's what I did. My father used to hire people mostly based on their HS SAT score, college GPA, or I.Q, it's not a meme.
There is serious cluttering in your resume. I wouldn't put the references (phone number included and shit) in the resume, but I would cite the names of your tutors/professors next to the relevant projects like you did with your undergrad research.
I'd post a copy of my own CV but it's not in english, may not be helpful.
Also you didn't put your hobbies and shit, nor any group activities you may have done (clubs, etc.). That's pretty dry without that.
Do you tailor it to job descriptions? Like addressing things in the requirements, and directly talking about times youve demonstrated that shit in the past. Also what kinds of jobs are you goibg for? Is the market good or bad atm
Okay, I'll look into rearranging the references. Also I did include extracurriculars in there, and also I linked to my personal website that has some hobbies and interests listed.
I've written enough cover letters at this point that I just cobble new ones together from old paragraphs that I've written for previous cover letters. But yes, I tailor them.
>Also what kinds of jobs are you goibg for? Is the market good or bad atm
Mechanical engineering jobs, but I've been expanding my search to software jobs too. The state of the job market depends on who you ask. People with jobs think everyone else are idiots with substandard skills or abilities, and people without jobs think the market is totally dead.
Honestly if we were on the same continent and in the same industry I'd put a word in for you, your resume looks good.
put skills at the top, then education, experience after that.
Perhaps add a statement of purpose that summarizes what you are looking to do. Throw in buzzwords like “team work” “people” “data” and “results”
How are your former classmates going then? Also are you aiming for grad hiring programs? I think as a grad, you gotta stress in your cover letter that youre keen to learn new shit and want to improve, maybe give exanples and demonstrate how you try to improve yourself in your own time, cuz lets be honest, everyone knows a grad isnt gonna be carrying a company. Youre an investment so they want you to be willing to learn as much as possible.
Eehh not sure I'm completely sold on that idea. Wouldn't it come off as kind of pompous?
I appreciate it user.
Don't engineering firms usually emphasize qualifications and experience more than skills though?
I've gotten that advice once before. Would it still make sense to add that if I'm putting basically the same thing in the cover letter?
Last I heard, they were having a pretty tough time too. Except for the women, who were all given jobs before graduating. I've been applying to anything and everything. Also ironically I talk about self improvement and learning quite a bit on my personal website, but maybe I'll move it into the cover letter.
Also I'll check this thread in the morning since it's 3am. And this is now resume general, I guess.
Because you have no connections. Applying online is a meme
>Except for the women, who were all given jobs before graduating
truly the oppressed gender
Your website hasn't been checked a single time I guarantee it, if its there and not on your resume or cover letter, consider it ignored
>Wouldn't it come off as kind of pompous
There's no loss in trying. It's not like they'll get you blacklisted in all of your country
Not sure how it works in the US but over here engineering is a masters-tier job.
In UK I got the job simply because I had Masters, because it's much easier to get chartered. Main argument from my boss is that he doesn't have to work part-time checking my submission reports to institution as my supervising engineer. With Bachelors there's a longer route, you have to write an independent technical report which takes a while and requires a lot of assistance / guidance from mentor / supervising engineer.
