The testnet will run for 1 week, and if all goes smoothly, the mainnet will go online. The testnet is literally the same thing as the mainnet, only it's in "testing" so people can try it out first. After the mainnet is released, the source code will be released shortly after for everyone to look at and audit.
For now, I'd like to see people's experiences with the testnet. Has it been running smoothly for you? Please come back to this thread and report your findings.

I get that more tps on-chain is a good thing and halving time for bulletproofs is amazing, but what's the benefit to having less blocktime? The rewards all even out, so it doesn't matter whether the blocktime is 9 seconds or hours, because the reward emission is the same regardless.
bulletproofs is for lower tx size = lower fees in the end (as I understand it)
low block time is for real life smart contracts use cases
when smart contracts become a real life thing, you will want FAST confirmation times
