Huh, I don't think I've ever had raw meat, though I would certainly be interested in trying it. I've heard that many central European cuisines incorporate raw pork.

My country is a disgrace to the fishing industry for it being one of our largest exports and were still terrible at sushi. My 10 days in Japan were the happiest of my life because all i did was eat cheap sushi all day.

It was so great! I remember me and my friend went to one of those restaurants where they prepare random sushi and put it on a conveyor belt so you can take whatever you like and pay for it after. I remember i was just eating a bunch of random crap, plates were starting to stack up and everything was so delicious until i realised the other Japoids were only eating 2-3 plates so i eventually realised i might of been overreating. It was my lunch and i didnt walk around hungry for the rest of the day and barely had any breakfast. It was so weird because i felt like i could eat for another hour.
Really hard to choose but my friend recommended me some crabby stuff and i think that was my favourite

Nope, as far as I'm aware there is absolutely no equivalent here. Our cuisine, up until the Industrial Revolution, mainly just consisted of stews and the like. In more coastal areas they would eat fish for sure, but raw? No.
Perhaps there is a sort of historical stigma attached to eating raw food in Europe, associated with barbarism, maybe.
So if you want to eat raw fish in North West Europe you just have to get sushi, most of which isn't even authentic. Such a shame, with the seas around Britain being so rich with produce. What could've been.

that's definitely a thing. i've even read a book about exactly that phenomenon

Yeah, it was just a guess desu but it would make a lot of sense. And would go some way to explain European obsession with cooking pretty much everything they eat

sorry. it was over ten years ago and the book is at my parents place so i have no access to it at the moment.

i think the author might have been a british social anthropologist named jack goody and the book might have been 'domestication of the savage mind', but i can't give my word on it.
