I’m looking to learn a second language and Norwegian has caught my interest. But appearent it’s VERY similar to Swedish. Should I just learn Swedish instead? Or is there no real difference? (Or another Lang you recommend)
What’s the difference between Norwegian and Swedish?
Norwegian is a much newer language. It is based on danish but the spelling and how you put your words has improved. I think it's easier to learn and speak.
>I think it's easier to learn Norwegian, said the Norwegian
Bokmål is probably easier to learn than Swedish, but there are two things to keep in mind 1. variations between regional variates of oral Norwegian can be fairly extreme, 2. There are two variates of written Norwegian, Bokmål and Nynorsk. Nynorsk is basically a much less danish version of Norwegian, and is considerably different from Bokmål. Bokmål is however more widely used
Norwegian is newer language and based on Danish, but the spelling is different
I think the easiest language for native English speakers to learn is Dutch
Learn Norwegian, it's easier and you'll be able to be understood by both Danes and swedes
>dutch
Also Frisian. It is apparently the closest to English.
hm...
Just learn Norwegian. You get Swedish and Danish along with it, more so than if you learn one of the other two.
They're both useless so you might as well go full autist and learn Faroese if you're only learning a second language for the sake of flexing.
Frisian doesn't really exist anymore, so it's pretty useless. It's also just a mixture of low German, Dutch (which itself is already a heavy deviation of low German) and old English...
And if you intend on learning Dutch, you should instead consider learning German, because it's much more useful and the Dutch are already way better at speaking English than you as a native speaker anyway.
He's learning it for culture, which you niggers swapped for multikulti.
Norwegian isn't even a real language. Written bokmål is literally 90% identical to written Danish.
If you have no plans to live in Norway there is no real reason to learn Norwegian.
Do whichever. The >you get access to the other continental Scandi langs with Norwegian meme is probably true, but you get that with either of the others too if you're not a brainlet, so it's up to you to make the choice really.
All three scandi languages are very similar, in reading. Not speaking.
>All three scandi languages
continental*
The insular ones (Icelandic and Faroese) are obv very different from the continental three in both orthography and phonology.
Swedish has some real bullshit in it, we have a sort of toneless blowing sound (/ɧ/) that can be spelled "Sk" "Skj" "Sj" " Stj" and a harder version that can be spelled "Tj" "Sch" "Sh" "K" "G"
No point learning either unless you wanna larp being a viking since they all speak english anyway.
I always forget about Iceland...
>we have a sort of toneless blowing sound (/ɧ/) that can be spelled "Sk" "Skj" "Sj" " Stj"
Nigger, it can be spelled in 15 different ways
>ch
>sch
>sc
>sh
>si
>sj
>sk
>skj
>stj
>g
>j
>ti
>xi
>gi
>rs
Furthermore, some dialects use /ɕ/ for both /ɕ/ and /ɧ/.
oh, add
>x
to that list
16 ways
And of course, we have its variants; /ɧ/ or /ɧf/, /ɧx/ and /ʂ/.

You already lost before you started, kid
based nynorsker
Of course you should learn Swedish instead, that's like asking "should I eat this roadkill I found or this tender filet mignon served to me for free?"
>If you have no plans to live in Norway there is no real reason to learn Norwegian.
Are you retarded?
>He doesn't eat roadkill on the regular
Yikes
Swedish makes you sound like you enjoy cock, Norwegian makes you sound like you're giddy.
>dane talking about how other lanuages sounds weird
just shut it and give me the syggelekokle
Now you just orderd tousand liter milk
Both languages are pretty, just pick the one you like the most.
This really.
What I recomend though is that eventually he'll expose himself to the dialects of the language he chooses, as this makes it easier to also learn the other scandinavian lanuages later

This is you: youtube.com
You could be telling someone your whole family was slaughtered and it'd sound like it was a pleasant event.
Danes really suck at imitating norwegians
Norweigan and danish are simplified Swedish.
Swedish is the most - what we call - "norrönt"- in scandinavia.
youtube.com
this is you
Sounds like kebabnorsk
But yeah if you get out of the city and out into the countryside norwegian rednecks tend to be excessively loud. I think it's nice
>Swedish is the most - what we call - "norrönt"- in scandinavia.
Funny, since Norrönt refers to the western dialectal split of Old Norse, aka what became Norwegian, Icelandic and Faroese. :^)
Don't give him the facts, it's better for his mental health to live on in his delusion.
OP, if you choose Norwegian, I advise you to learn how to write bokmål first. It'll be easier for Swedes+Danes to understand you then.
After that I reccommend you learn nynorsk if you can be bothered though.
>danish "comedy"
SEETHING
no, it was just bad, at least the Swedish impressions are funny
It genuinely was bad, atleast the Kamelåså actors did a good job of replicating the danish english accent.
The vid in this thread making fun of Norwegians was lazy and extremely unprofessional sounding, like they didn't even try to make an effort of satirizing Norwegians.
Most danish comedy I've seen seems to be centered on a danish man being reasonable and normal, and then a swedish man/woman shows up and acts like some ridiculous swedish SJW stereotype that doesn't really exist. It's like one of those strawman comics.
Not very good.

Do kids learn bokmål and nynorsk in Norwegian schools ?
Norwegians parodying themselves are honestly 10x better
Like
youtube.com
Parents decide what the kid is gonna learn as primary writing form, then they learn the other one secondarily
But he is right. Swedish is the most traditional of the three.
user is wrong. Nynorsk/bokmål is decided according to where in the country you grow up.
>Norwegians parodying themselves are honestly 10x better
I think that's generally the case with anything, especially when most foreign parodies are done by people who don't care to learn anything about their target.
What's with that guys accent anyway?
And so everyone speaks both languages ?
Not when you count nynorsk, and there is no reason not to. Nynorsk is as close to old west norse as swedish is to old east norse.
Everyone is fluent in one of the two. You can't "speak" either of them as they are two separate written standards.
You of course learn the other one as "sidemål" in school, often to the detriment of students who struggle with language in general.
...in relation to what? You have to set the starting point somewhere. All of the languages have suffered severe changes in grammar and phonology, you can't really measure it like that. Especially not since there is so little attested of Proto-Norse and Proto-Germanic, and like I explained earlier, Old Norse were already a bunch of dialects during its time, which then split off into three major versions which rendered the old languages of our current ones, which turned modern and then contemporary.
2bh, Swedish has changed ALOT. Full collapse of grammar, new Rs, JUSTed orthography, shit's just fucked man.
Nynorsk is an artificial joke
Nynorsk is one of two written standards of Norwegian, equal to bokmål in all fields.
You're coming off as an immature child, grow up.
Hehe yeah nynorsk ist toatly not a desperate experiment to try and reclaim old roots that just comes of as a joke.
Nynorsk is Ivar Aasen's successful attempt at regaining a Norwegian language that isn't a reformed version of Danish.
Are you done being a child now?
>Crawford
lelmao
Cringe post
See, a desperate experiment. Calling me a child makes you seem more like an adult. Keep doing that.
cringe individuals
How is it a desperate experiment?
An experiment, maybe, but it's not desperate by any means.
Fact of the matter is - nynorsk is equal to bokmål in today's Norway and that pisses you off for some strange reason.
why are you fighting? let norweigans have their nynorsk. i wouldn't mind written dialectical swedish either.
>and that pisses you off for some strange reason.
Thats something you've imagined in your head
>i wouldn't mind written dialectical swedish either.
First of all; that's not what nynorsk is. Second of all; jesus christ please no
here we see the cuckholmer mindset on display! everyone, point and laugh!
this disgusting cuckholmer faggot thinks the way he speaks his cuck-swedish is the way we all ought to speak (and write) it.
>he can't even justify it and resorts to insults
Hillbilly intelectual.
city cuck faggot.
Learning Norwegian makes it a lot easier to understand Danish I think, so you should learn Swedish
I'm a Gothenburger. The idea that we should further lower our language is ridiculous. If anything, we should be trying to elevate it.
Wäääää wäääää wäääää wäääää
seething peasant
What would a gothenburger know about language?
gothenburg is disgusting.
and your accent is gay as fuck.
Maximum cope.
göteborg är fullt av bruna människor
>imagine living in a city
HAHAHAHAH
>nynorsk is equal to bokmål in today's Norway
Also, Icelandic is literally old norse. All the scandi languages have branched off completely.
Just as an addendum - lots of Norwegian high schoolers will understandably openly rebel against their sidemål, whether it be bokmål or nynorsk. It can seem unfair (and rightfully so) that we have to learn four languages instead of 3 (native, english, french/spanish/German).
But this bluepilledness dissapears once people realize how much nynorsk is shrinking. A very optimistic estimate of the current % of people who use nynorsk is ~15%. Probably lower.
So, we need to take care of it despite what norwegian high schoolers will tell you.
>i wouldn't mind written dialectical swedish
We have a script for that, landsmålsalfabetet. :^)
I've been studying it a bit, but it's hard as fuck to find proper documentation on it.
>imagine being this assblasted
det är ju sant
you don't get my point faggot.
it should be up to each county to make their OWN written language. i don't want standardization.
>old west norse is old norse
k
>(native, english, french/spanish/German).
since when did we have to learn french/german/spanish?
spanish wasn't even offered as a choice at the school I went to.
>Icelandic is literally old norse.
uhm, no...
it's literally not
Scandinavia is not Europa, they should create their own union, federation or confederation. We would all be happier.
this is gothenburg
Since decades? What school did you go to mate, Indre Sogn ungdomsskole?
>we should have the equiveland of nynorsk in swede
no that wouldn't make sense
>reeee fuck you cuckholm faggot
I'm from gothenburg
>gothenburg is filled with brown people!
