maybe get your insurance company to approve it first ya dingus

>home worth 15k
>annual income is 3k
>median household income in the US is 52k

Ya she's doing something wrong and I'm not surprised her insurance didn't cover anything at all

Had my appendix out with no insurance for $20k.

You can't read.

The caption says "The $115,000-plus bill for the hosipiral stay was about how much Young's home is worth, and 5 times her annual income"

So it says her home is worth around $115k and she makes $23k a year.

$3,769.00 for pic related

market rate, should have shopped around instead of going to the first hospital

I had a 45,000 dollar surgery in February and it cost me 1.7k post insurance. It is what it is, I don't want any more excuses for the government to take more than they already are.

>npr.org/sections/health-shots/2018/05/14/610072486/sticker-shock-jolts-oklahoma-patient-15-076-for-4-tiny-screws

>"Our sale price for screws used in foot and ankle procedures would be below $300 per screw, with the most expensive around $1,000."
>Based on the numbers Schmieding provided, the hospital markup on Young's screws could range from roughly 275 percent to upwards of 1,150 percent.

>market rate

You mean price gouging?

Don't forget, hospitals balance their books on the backs of people with jobs and insurance so that Tyone can get shot and stabbed by Shi'Tavious and get patched up for free.

>1.7k post insurance.

Don't you pay premiums every month too?

kek

Oh I didn't see 115k, I thought it was 15k.
Ok that is different

You have a point but you can't deny that we've reached a point where this is no longer sustainable. The healthcare bubble has to burst sometime. This is fucking nuts. I'd give it a couple more years before it starts getting rough for everyone, not just a couple unlucky fucks like this lady.

sounds like there could be a real market out there for dyi basement illegal surgery for cheap, just learn from the internet how to operate and stuff, would probably be a lot better than half the "doctors" out there

It's called medical tourism ya dingus

Already happens. I see Americans traveling here all the time for operations and surgery because they can't afford it at home, even with insurance.

You know what will fix this? Dumping the bill on taxpayers. Yeah just guarantee all those bills with full faith by the gubmint.

but you don't even have to travel overseas if a local is doing it out if his garage

I had a tonsil abscess about a year and a half ago, gross shit made me vomit pus. Pretty metal desu.

Anyways, I go to my local hospital once it had gotten really painful and told them to check me out, I didn't even get a Physician, I got a fucking PA, and this schmuck shines a light in my throat, says it's strep and then starts writing me a prescription for antibiotics. I asked him if he was actually going to test me and confirm it is strep, he said "no, I've seen this a lot I know it's strep"

I go home and take my antibiotics on time every time, finish my round and a week later start feeling VERY sick again. Vomiting pus, delirium, really bad shit. I went to another hospital out of town and they immediately CT scan me (lol $2000 for 90 seconds in a loud tube) put me in a room with no bed. I am literally standing there for 15 minutes before a nurse comes in and says "oh no, you have no bed?" and gets one for me. (nicest nurse ive ever met) He hooks me up with some IV fluids and sends the doctor in, who immediately gasps when she sees the ping-pong ball sized pustule in my throat.
She goes and gets a big old syringe, numbs me up and sucks the disgusting filth out of my tonsil, and I can immediately feel relief. I get admitted and hooked up to the strongest IV antibiotics "on site" as the doctor said. Got released the next day with a script of antibiotics that cost hundreds of dollars out of pocket.

Healthcare in the US is hit-or-miss. I've heard of people who went to the local hospital I had mentioned (Charlotte Hungerford Hospital) with bleeding cuts on their wrists, saying they wanted to commit suicide and had obviously attempted to do so getting patched up and sent home the same night. I can say with absolute certainty that dozens of people have died in that hospital due to their laziness and incompetence.

I don't go to Charlotte Hungerford anymore, people literally joke about it around here.

Reading some of the google reviews. KEK

oh, I failed to mention that the out of town hospital that saved my life admitted me overnight because my kidneys were beginning to fail. I had 4 blood samples hemolyze before they could hit the lab 50 yards away.

the place is an absolute shithole. My girlfriend has really bad athsma and I'm genuinely shook about the idea of her having a really bad attack and having to go there.

I shouldn't be afraid to bring my loved ones to the fucking hospital.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Revolutionary War 2 when??

>throat abscess from sucking too dick

Whoa slow down Rambo. It’s not a race. Slow and steady wins the race

well we wouldnt have to pay these outrageously high prices if ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS wouldnt clog up our hospitals and emergency rooms and not pay, so who pays for all of it? we do, the tax payers and those of us with insurance. so, thanks mexicans.

fuck out of here hillbillly defender. take your reading comp class back to the homeless shelter. enjoyyour hvp dumb toastie uunt. die

That place looks terrible from the reviews.

Thankfully in my area (pop 100,000), we have decent hospital access.

My dad is a pediatrician and laments the medical costs he sees. He takes medicaid patients, but a lot of docs don't. He's even paid for transportation costs for some of his patients and their parents/legal guardians.

There's something broken in the US when a doctor pays out of pocket (not reimbursed) to ensure his patients are able to access the care they need.

On the upside, more insurance companies (even those attached to Medicaid) are helping with transportation these days.

That said, make sure to read all the documentation regarding what is covered and what are the limits of your insurance. Get a preauth where one is needed too. Generally is 30 minutes of phone time and it'll save a bunch of money in the long term.

shut the fuck up link peasant. i am not your diary.

edgie

>Took 3 hours for my mom to even get seen and then took 7 more hours to get her a room.

Is this common? I thought this was one of the big reasons Americans are afraid of universal healthcare

Did you actually read the article or just the title? lol dumb fuck.

Yes.

Did you?

im from europoor shithole with socialized healthcare. its the same shit, you just get taxed additional ~25% of your every pay check to pay for all this shit.
whats annoying me the most is that i actually take care of myself, which is fucking expensive sometimes: i exercise (need gym subscription), eat healthy food (vegetables are a lot more expensive than processed shitfood), etc. and i pay exactly the same as some fat landwhale who stuffs her mouth with nuggets and chocolate 24/7.
