It's fairly safe, you might get robbed if you walk alone in the middle of the night(it's still only like 5% chance if you don't live in a literall hellhole poblacion). During daytime the only problem is being pickpocketed but getting robbed is pretty hard.
Getting murdered or kidnapped is extremely unlikely, you can literally go to the most dangerous part of the city at 3 am and still you won't get murdered nor kidnapped, you'll just get robbed(80%-90%% chance based on how you look).
Home robbing is somewhat common but it's really a thing to worry too much, no one goes to bed afraid they'll get their hose broke in.

I never really visited a neighboring country so idk.
But meme aside, the medium-size cities in the Southwest and South are pretty good to live, specially campinas region where it's a mix of a bigcity but has that small city vibe. They're pretty safe compared to the rest of the country.
There are also the small villages in the south which are basically just rural areas where nothing ever happens.
Special mention to the Center-West which is a just a huge Texas.

It is fairly safe, depends on your region. In most areas of LA is more likely that you'll get mugged than shot, and there is certain stuff that you must keep in mind in order to avoid getting mugged, its nothing hard really, in essence, you must avoid acting like a complete retard (just keep your valuable stuff out of sight).

I don't concerned myself with that whole ordeal. But as far as I care, it was a retarded move of them to make their plan known to everyone if they really wanted to get into the US.

The people in the caravan are mostly poor uneducated people. Letting them in is literally importing poor people that can't even speak your language.
I'm pretty sure most of them aren't robbers or killers, but their lack of education makes for example; throw their thrash to the streets, be okay with living in ghettos(and create them) in segregated comunnities. They'll have a hard time finding jobs for the same reason and won't doubt on asking for gibs.
