literally ameritards
Lmao
what percentage of those europeans are learning english? notice how the UK isn't on the list
English is not considered as a foreign language?
frenchs are learning ooga booga and swedes the muhammadian language
I don't get it
That's because their is only one other country that borders us that doesn't speak English and it isn't worth visiting
*There
70-80% are learning German. stsop fucking coping on everything.
Australia would be even worse.
source?
Bullshit rating
English is for 90%+ the first language you """learn""" here.
But don't believe OP pic lies. French are barely better than spanish and Italian at English.
ahahaha cope
we already speak the language they are learning, faggot.
no but really, source? are you trying to cope? give me a source
retarded faggot
Yeah, by 'learning a foreign language' they primarily mean taking some mandatory classes that do nothing.
keep coping kid ahahah you're a pathetic failure who speaks only american cope harder
I was in France in the late 90's and even then it seemed like most people who weren't old (and some who were) spoke at least passing English.
t. literal wetback
this, french lessons in my school were fucking useless
Read what other flags say, Why are so triggered btw? An american fucked your mom? But that's good, you are an anchor baby now.
keep coping for being a single language speaker because your low IQ can't handle more than a few words lmao
cope
this, also we arent crammed next to several countries with different languages so not necessary for the average american
How much French did you have to take? Did your teacher suck? I took three years in burgerland and was at the point where my reading was basically fluent, and my ability to write it wasn't far behind. The hardest part to get from a class is the speaking and listening. I wish my later teachers had used 100% French in the classroom and made us do the same, but they did not.
Why would you bother learning another language when a huge chunk of the planet speaks English already? Unless you have an interest in a specific culture it serves no purpose and would be a highly inefficient way to spend your time.
keep coping
cope
why doesn't english count?
I'd imagine our statistics would be padded out by implying that kids who take one or two hours lessons of language class a week are considered "learning" a foreign language.
It does. He's just being a little too American.
25% of your population is latino
you need to learn spanish more than anyone in continental europe need to learn english
You are a massive faggot, OP
it does but nowadays dont most places teach it along with whatever language is native to your country? of course more students will learn a language that is enforced vs optional
What is the language situation in Australia, exactly? Looking for real answers, not memes about immigrants. Was there ever a significant population of non-Anglophones from Europe or Asia before the last few decades? Do abo languages still exist at all?
because my point is that we already know the language you NEED to know, so why would we learn it
how often do you speak, hear, or see english in your daily life? how often do you think native english speakers speak, see or hear danish?
It isnt though, especially if you live in a good state. I would assume border states probably learn second languages more for that reason though
Bizarre retort.. Although I have to say you're a wonderful example of how (I presume) being multi-lingual has no bearing on actual intelligence.
French may be "learning" english but anyone who has been outside of Paris knows the english langauge skills, even of the young generation, are totally shit.
It takes exactly one generation for Hispanic-Americans to assimilate to English.
Paris vs. France
You sound like you think the French owe it to you to speak English.
Minor yes, significant no. The overwhelming majority of European Australians are of English-Irish-Scottish-Welsh ancestry (In that order)

cope
I dont at all. it doesnt bother me, its their country they speak their language.
im just saying that stat is totally misleading.
I'm learning a foreign language
This makes me better than 80% of people
t. statistics pro
Programming language > Chinese >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Literally every other kind language in existence
>What is the language situation in Australia, exactly?
In terms of language diversity? The most recent census data (2016) has the top five languages spoken at home as:
Language spoken by a person at home (top 5)
>English only - 72.7%
>Mandarin - 2.5%
>Arabic - 1.4%
>Cantonese - 1.2%
>Vietnamese - 1.2%
>Was there ever a significant population of non-Anglophones from Europe or Asia before the last few decades?
Not really that significant, to be honest. We have a fair few people from all around Europe but yeah, wouldn't really call them significant.
>Do abo languages still exist at all?
Fucking barely, hey. Aboriginal Australians only make up something like 2.2% of the population and that includes people who have "aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander" backgrounds. There are apparently 120 native languages still spoken today but you'd be lucky to find any reasonable sized group of people who actually use them aside from elders preserving culture, etc.
It can be read about here, if you're interested: lryb.aiatsis.gov.au

Thanks man, great answer, but your top five languages still leaves 21% unaccounted for. Was the English supposed to be higher than that?
To be honest you'd have to dig through the census report to get the full picture. There is an excel file somewhere up for download on the government site pages related to the 2016 census.
The data is relative in-depth but I couldn't find the file with the raw numbers. Used to have it on hand for misc. reasons but deleted it.
english all you need
Learning anything but English isnt necessary for most Americans.
here's the Pew Research report:
pewresearch.org
they probably didn't add the "UK" because they always fuck up their statistics, but maybe Pew could have tried at least to add England-Wales or Scotland or Northern Ireland if they had the figures available
Not necessary doesn't mean not worthwhile.
The world literally revolves around the US. There is no point in learning any language other than English.
My school required foreign language instruction
not true, actually. the world revolves around the sun.
The only "foreign language" here is English
Plus there are like 100 languages here so we don't bother learning everything else
drumpfkins owned
Idk what you're talking about. I can speak 3 languages user, I'm going on my 4th one too.

ty friendo
when they just gonna make english the primary language in school worldwide?
hmmmm
>The United States represented 28.69% of the world's economy in 1960 (highest point),
Everyone relevant speaks English, this is especially true in the US and Canada, with a population of over 360 million. In Europe you have immediate access to American movies or if you're in Germany Dutch or French vacations. France isn't even as large as the US state of Texas.
Fuck off with muh ameritards need 2 lurn a language meme. The only relevant language other than English here is Spanish, and that's only relevant if you want to become a landscaper or a restaurant owner.
or a doctor
or a lawyer
or a public relations person
or a manager
or literally any service-related industry. Especially if you're going to live in Texas
>with a population of over 360 million
That's the size of an Indian village.
>most common 2nd language in sweden is swedish
lmao
That means immigrants are learning the language.
>learning irrelevant languages when the foreign cucks will just learn the one you speak
Yes, why learn Irish when everyone already know English?
It's an absolute waste of time and money learning a language that's not English, if you already know it there's no reason to learn anything else.
> You need Spanish to be a lawyer
I'm sorry when did American law become writ in Spanish?
>implying geographical size has any bearing on this what so ever
france has a population density of 321 persons p/m^2
texas has a population density of 105 persons p/m^2
what's up with these non-100% countries? learning foreign tongue is kinda obligatory in any school alongside with math, native language, PT, history etc.
>It's an absolute waste of time
Learning a language is a fantastic way to spend your time. Your brain will thank you in the long run.
>and money
You can learn most languages without spending any significant amount of money, if any money at all.
>if you already know it there's no reason to learn anything else
Media. Humans life to escape.
It's only obligatory from the 5th grade I think
Imagine not being bilingual by the age of 15
I MISSED BY ONE YEAR
in school you learn english + another foreign language like german, spanish or french
Nordic & Germanic languages = white
French = cringe but firstie
English = goblinsprache
The rest = thirdie
English + Spanish doesn't count as bilingual.
It's not required in all states, it's required here in Washington state though
year 7-9 in högstadiet and 10-12 in gymnasiet it is mandatory to learn a tertiary language, apart from swedish and english
how greece is 82?
English is mandatpry at school and later german or french
but English IS Germanic lang, Hans
*cue image of pie chart showing percentage of Latin and French vocabulary in English*
same here, probably why we're not on the list it doesn't fit the tweeters agenda
That would imply having a major speech disability until 15, as bilingual usually (I think) means two native languages, not two known ones.
Not him but we had 5 years of mandatory French and I can barely string a sentence together. I was one of the better ones in our class as well lmao I got an A grade in our GCSEs and it wasn't too hard
I think I had at least 7 or 8 teachers over that period and only one of them was native french speaking at rest were fucking brits. I went to school in London as well.
>already knows the facts which discredit his argument
Does that mean languages are not mandatory in school? Confusing.
americans do take foreign languages as part of graduating credits, so I don't understand what purpose this shit thread serves
that being said, foreign languages are utterly useless to most any american
Soon hopefully
cope
spectator index is such a meme, it skips a lot of rankings to make some countries look really bad
that being said I think foreign language learning for anglo countries should be around 50%
