But in general people are very positive, they really like seeing us, but dont understand how utterly decimated our forces has become due to the decisions taken during the 90's/early 2000's
Fun fact: during the early years of the republic (pre-Civil War) being a professional soldier in the regular army was not considered a very noble profession and had something of a stigma to it. It was something poor people and especially immigrants did. In the 1840s something like 45% of the regular army was foreign born, and a good chunk not even citizens. Americans had a strong distrust of standing armies as inherently tyrannical.
During the Mexican-American War, volunteers would get pissy if officers "treated them like regulars" instead of citizens.
Foreign countries and companies are not our "nation".

All citizens are free to join if they pass our tests, wich are quite strict. You need at least a upper secrondary school degree and score well on physical and mental tests, as well as beeing compleatly fluent in Swedish. Only around 20% of those who do the tests pass them, and very few of those are migrants or even of non-european decent.
