eisenhower was a republican but is unironically like top 5 in history. he basically predicted the future of american war profiteering and tried to warn against it and stop it. he also expanded and was largely entirely responsible for our highway system. he also wasn't necessarily a fan of commies (probably hated them) but thought McCarthyism was a fucking joke at best and dangerous at worst. he was a military man, a really really respected general during/after WWII so he knew what he was talking about regarding war profiteering

The Downfall of Nixon, Republicans were primarily a pragmatist right party before Watergate. Ford and to a much lesser degree Bush were the last of this group. In the 1960's Goldwater emerged and pushed new ideas in the party most notably the religious right. The Reagan Revolution would cement Goldwater's ideals as a main part of the republican platform until Trump who's restructured it again. H.W. being Regan's Vice president was a compromise with the traditional wing of the republican party. Bill Clinton honestly, had more in common with those types of republicans than modern democrats.
