師走 師走 師走, for some reason the only month which retains its own name

正月

No, that's of Chinese origin. 睦月 was the original name for January.

うわキモー
こないで月オタク

こっちは普通に師走の雰囲気ですけどね

I know plenty of Jap but none of it seems useful in a conversation.

Is it bad practice to flip on english subs to check understanding of what you're listening to?

Yes. You're only wasting your time.

You don't even need to be good at Japanese to be able to converse in it.

Why?

自国のいいところを教えてください

Most translations aren't 1 to 1 with the original, and even if they were you're not going to improve your comprehension by reading the english captions. If you're just worried about not understanding the narrative, you might as well watch it in english altogether. Then at least you won't be wasting your time.

Who writes the N tests? Why do they seem so stilted and awkward and wrong?

What the fuck does that N even mean

Where can I find blank previous exams of Noken exams? I just want to see N5 exercises to see how much of a dekinai I'm yet and find out what should I start improving

learn japanese before worrying about some stupid tests

I really wanna hear the boy in the video in the previous thread speak in Japanese. Even though it would be prerequisite to have some opportunities for commucating with native speakers for learning some elements such as difference of nuances between synonyms, he would fill those gaps within several, or even a couple of months if he gets to have those opportunities.

>on Jow Forums almost daily for the past 12 years since I was 16 years old and it has helped my conversational English more than anything else.
What did you parents think of or have they ever commented on your staying up in front of computer every night and becoming more and more proficient in English, then now having turned into Japanese?

How dense are you? I am learning japanese already, what's the problem with wanting to test my abilities, or seeing what is being tested?

/N2/ boi here, I'll be /N1/ next year... Hopefully

I passed N2 a year ago. Best of luck.

A little worried about listening. Hopefully all of those hours spent listening to Japanese ASMR pays off.

Don't know what you have against ASMR. It's great listening practice, especially live streams.

But nobody talks like that in real life.

I'm not listening to anime ASMRs.
Unless you are referring to whispering and such.

of course

Are you not self-aware?

>Taking the N1 myself. Feeling good about it.
Nice, me too. I was worried about it until about two months ago, when I did the sample questions and got 100% without even really trying.

Poleposter is literally the only thing that prevents this thread from being good

youtube.com/watch?v=g2mVsPb7s7k

I took a few sample questions and only fucked up the meaning of いたわる (I mined it with the kanji and I struggle with it already in Anki) and one grammar question because they were all pretty similar (the answer was ところで).
The audio is always fucked so I never went past the reading questions.

The nuance on these Shin Kanzen master grammar questions can be insane.

which reading for 女将?

You've never heard おかみ?

This might surprise you, but I came into this thread not already knowing japanese. Fancy that!

It's just a word you hear fairly frequently.
Or maybe you just haven't seen 花咲くいろは

Why does JLPT N5 even exist?
Like at N5 level you're not capable of really doing anything
It's paying $50 to take a test that means nothing

N2, I don't know, I've been scoring lower lately. Maybe I'm burnt out we'll see tomorrow I guess.
Pass or fail, N1 next year for me. Really rushed the decision this year but if I had a whole year, it wouldn't be a problem I think.

What are you guys doing to prepare in the last hours? I'm going to be early tonight, maybe watch a movie, clean my place in the morning so at least it's tidy when I come back.

頑張る

I'm going through Shin Kanzen Master N1 grammar since reading/listening are pretty universal, and I don't see the grammar they'll test on very much.

>What are you guys doing to prepare in the last hours?
I've been playing a lot of JRPGs, but that's not really any different from how I've been studying for 6 months now anyway.

First thread I've seen in a while where literally zero Japanese is being discussed.
I'm sure the blogposting here is much better suited for Discord.

If those are those back of the book questions before the mock exam I stopped doing those, good questions I guess but didn't feel really that relevant.

I'm excited to returning to reading and just doing reps.

Stop posting

German or Polish posters, can't tell which one kills off the threads the most...
Though I'd say US posters are starting to give them a run for their money.

I'm on task to be N3 next time. Should I attempt N2 anyway or take N3. Is N3 at all useful for job prospects? I've got a bachelor's in computer science already.

Anyone here ever play an MMO in Japanese?

I went from N5 to N2 in a year, you can do it.

J-CAT placed me at N3, so I one upped it to N2, might not pass but I didn't see sense to pay for a test I could probably pass.

How to learn kanji? I'm too lazy to do boring studying

Worth changing my font to something that displays 八 without the thingy on top, or does it actually see much usage that way?

just use furigana bro

Doesn't teach me kanji but it does let me guess how a lot of kanji are read from context

Most things don't have furigana

Oh I thought you were joking

Also why do I get 10-20 Captchas everytime I want to post

Get a stylus and this thing. Good practice when you get bored.

Well, bring something to the table then.

Can someone upload newer books to the library? I'm looking for more recent SAO and Index stuff.
