But I have studied in Zurich and work in Zurich. The part where I work is entirely just huge business and office buildings, so thats not so comfy. But the old-town in the city centre is really comfy, despite it being a bigger city. But yeah, there are definitely more comfy places around here. If we are talking all of Switzerland, I'd say Schaffhausen and Thun are really comfy and have the perfect size ( around 40'000 people).

People are very highly educated around here. Zurich has two major universities, (UZH and ETH), both have multiple Nobel Laureates and are well-placed in the rankings. Most people who work in Zurich have a diploma from one of these. But Zurich also attracts a lot of highly-qualified people from abrosd. We have the largest Google Offices outside of the USA here, Apple and Facebook develop their comoputer vision stuff here, IBM has a few thousand people here in its headquarters. Then there are all the Banks, Insurances, Robotics/Industry/Aerospace companies.

I've never been to Bulgaria or Romania, so I can only speak for western/southern Balkan. But I have to say yes, even the "shittier" parts of Switzerland are better than the best parts in the Balkans. In terms of infrastracture, there are no "bad" parts of Switzerland. Every fucking mountain village in the alps has an own train station, frequent train connection until late night, buses for transport inside the town/village etc. There are of course areas which are richer than the average (tax heavens etc) and areas where the working class live and are a bit "poorer", but that is still pretty much above most other places on the planet in terms of life quality. There is a financial equilibrium between the Swiss cantons where rich cantons (Zurich, Basel, Geneva rtc. ) help the "poor" cantons financially so that the entire country is equally developed. Also, Switzerland as a nation is absolutely fucking obsessed with cleanliness. In Zurich we have the street parade when 1 million people dance, drink and parade thorugh the city. Afterwards it looks like a garbage pile everywhere and stinks like piss. But 4 hours later, the city is as clean as before again.

Well it's not necessarily always an academic education. My coworkers are mostly academic. But Switzerland is also well known for its dual educiation system (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_education_system). This means that young kids find an apprentice job at the age of 14/15 and work in a company for 3 days a week for practical stuff and have 2 days school for theory. This is the non-academic path for people eho bevomr carpenters, construction eorkers, electricians. And in those "practical" fields people are really well educated. Of course it's no academic degree, but they are absolute professionals on their field.

I have had to do eith people from Sofia, Tirana and Belgrade work-wise. I think if people in those places that take their education seriously, they have a satisfactory level of knowledge to work high-profile jobs even here. But in terms of absolute excellence, I don't think the Balkans have comparably educated people. Not trying to be arrogant here what the Balkans is really missing is something like the whole apprenticeship/dual education system for non-academic jobs. That's a killer good system for an economy.

The education system here profits from the fact that you have this huge variety of companies where you can learn the practical stuff. If you are studying for space/aero engineer, you have companies like Pilatus or RUAG here eho build rockets and planes. If you study economics, you have all the banks where you can go learn practical stuff during your studies. I think there is nothing stopping the Balkans from implementing a similar system. The problem is just that the whole private sector/company part is somewhat missing/incomplete on the Balkans I think.

I've been to Croatia and Albania more often, I see good progress there in terms of education and economy. Macedonia is kinda mehh. I can't speak for the other countries.
