you are mistaken my norwegian friend. the first day of winter in the northern hemisphere is the 21st of december, also known as the winter solstice. on this day the inclination of the earth's northern hemisphere is farthest from the sun, making the day the shortest of the year. while winter begins in the northern hemisphere summer begins in the southern hemisphere, its inclination to the sun is closest of the whole year and the day is longest.

By that logic, March is more of a winter month than December, which makes no sense since March is warmer most places in the northern hemisphere. December 21st is actually called midwinter some places.

Yeah it is, but that isn’t really a common occurrence. 30 is super rare and anything between 40-50 lasts at MOST a week before inevitable heating up. But it’s not even a guarantee it drops that low every year, 60s are the lowest it gets in December with any form of consistency
