Yeah thats ok. I like old chinese culture but their current government is strange. My friend had to call them every month to inform them of what he did here in Switzerland. He also told me he has some advantages over non Bejing born citizens.

Chinese/Mandarin has a similar grammar structure to English, so it shouldn't really be that alien to English speaking natives. Sure, there are tones and characters but I doubt they are as much of a hurdle as people like to make a show of.
I may take more interest in a Chinese language one day but for the moment Japan produces most of the things I'm interested in. I suppose having a character familiarity would make it somewhat easier to pick up the reading aspect of Chinese, since their whole character reform was designed so different dialects could more or less read the written language regardless of their tonal/spoken differences.
Haven't really heard a Chinese spoken language that is nice to listen to, though. Motivation is kind of the key to languages since you'll naturally spend more time consuming content if you actually enjoy the language.
