you marry in your caste and ethnicity

it's pure endogamy

did you take arranged marriage culture from arabs and mughals or it was a thing since ancient times?

>you marry in your caste and ethnicity
it's a complete lie.
you can marry anyone you want. but ritual changes, Different marriage has different rituals.
love marriages can be arranged. it's not like marrying a complete stranger showed on TV. you can marry your girlfriend in arranged way.

t. cityfag

>love marriages can be arranged. it's not like marrying a complete stranger showed on TV. you can marry your girlfriend in arranged way.
So what is a point, e.g. how is this "arranged" it looks like normal (western style) marriage?

>you marry in your caste and ethnicity
If you try to marry outside your caste will you get killed?

>love marriages can be arranged
What the fuck are you talking about?

>If you try to marry outside your caste will you get killed?

Yes, if a dalit marries an upper caste girl. The family of the girl either abandons her completely or kills both of them. It's pretty based.

>So what is a point
love marriages involves no family , but in Indian style arrangement it also jointing two families.
>If you try to marry outside your caste will you get killed?
no you won't but we avoid the marriages that changes our believes like marrying a muslim can be very problematic as they want to change religion

kys
>kills both of the
stop misinforming muslim fag.

Do people care if one spouse is Hindu and another is Muslim, but no one forces the other to change?

it's hard as maximum muslims want their spouse to change their religion. people do not care but they are concerned . many cases have come forward where husband is blackmailing Hindu wife .

Thats Not based! We're in 2018, everyone should be able to marry who they love WITHOUT consequences. The cast system is retarded as fuck.

Based.

>everyone should be able to marry who they love WITHOUT consequences. The cast system is retarded as fuck
he is spreading misinformation. caste system is not based on birth and to marry a brahmin girl the sudra has to do penance ie, reading text with ritual . anyone can marry anyone.
modern (since British) caste system is retarded but it was more of a value system. i mean if a brahmin commit a same crime as shudra then brhmin's (scholars/priests) punishment is 4 times more.

Genomic evidence suggests that castes have been endogamous for millennia

t. Whitoid reader of Razib Khan's blog

>not tagging anyone
t. edgy

you are the one spreading misinformation you sheltered faggot.

oh really?

Razib Khan is a coping subhuman.

Romantic love is a mental illness like homosexuality or leftism.

I don't entertain thoughts or comments that are articulated with incel lingo.

This is incredibly based.

Cos you're a fag.

You marry your first cousin.

Incest is discouraged in Hinduism

That used to be fucked up process user.

Here's what used to happen before Europeans set foot.
Women were considered liabilities and arranged marriages were simply a transfer of a liability. (Hence the dowry part.)
When a girl girl gets her first period, rituals are performed ( kinda like a birthday party ).
The word spreads about her reaching puberty. Soon suitors within the closed groups approach her parents.
Her parents evaluate options and decide on the best suitor.
The families visit each other with a shit ton of goods (fruits, flowers, sweets, you name it! )
On the day of engagement, dowry is negotiated and agreed upon.
On the day of marriage , the girl along with her dowry is sent with the groom.

lol no!

Ok retard

>Retarded leaf doesn't know that happens in islam not hinduism

>>can’t use Wikipedia

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arranged_marriage_in_the_Indian_subcontinent

There's literally no mention of it.

>Women were considered liabilities
are you that retarted? so much misinformation . you fags are really good at missinforming. what a joke.
>Her parents evaluate options and decide on the best suitor
are you being serious? its always the girl that chooses.
you are either a commie or a mudslime get the fuck out of this thread about hindu marriage.
kys faggit

kys use commie or muslim memeflag you laarp

>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arranged_marriage_in_the_Indian_subcontinent

>>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cousin_marriage#India

no hindu practices it.

very based

don't make me copy pasta. it's clearly in the link i provided. also, OP says India, not Hinduism

This

Is it generally a problem if one spouse is not hindu (like with muslims where it gets troublesome if the female is muslim but the female isn't) or this is related only to muslims?
How does hindu religion view non-hindus? I heard different things like you perceive them to be like apes but I am not sure of that really.

Looks pretty much like it's done in Islam.

>are you being serious? its always the girl that chooses.
Was it always like that?

>are you being serious? its always the girl that chooses

This is not true at all. My mom didn't even see the face of my dad until the day she got married to him.

then its not arranged, first rule is to see face of the spouse. i suppose you meant "met" .

Why does everyone act like arranged marriages are some exotic thing that only brown people do? They were the norm in the West until just a few centuries ago.

I only described the age old tradition.

There ARE villages where these practices are still followed. The only difference would be that the marriage gets delayed till her legal age.

>are you that retarted? so much misinformation . you fags are really good at missinforming. what a joke.

what part of it you consider misinformation?

>its always the girl that chooses.
FUCK NO!! you being raised by a liberal family in a big city doesn't mean the entire nation is now liberal. A large part of the country is still conservative. have you ever visited rural India?

>you are either a commie or a mudslime
So people you disaggree with is either a commie or a muslim, great arguments kiddo

>There ARE villages
agree but very few
>you being raised by a liberal family
my city, village or my state have no problem. so liberal has nothing to do with it. maybe its practised in where you live, does not mean everyone practice it.
>tradition
it is the tradition to see the face.

All non-Hindus are considered "म्लेच्छ" (pronounced: Mlechha) traditionally, meaning "foreigner/barbarian". The origin if the word comes from Indians hearing Greek and mocking it. Marriage is forbidden. For both men and women. It's not followed well in modern times especially in the West, where an Indian is marrying a foreigner and Sanskrit hymns are being recited. One of those hymns HAS to deal with the caste of the bride and the groom.

High caste Hindu men are allowed to keep lower caste women as "courtesans" but they must not marry them otherwise they will lose their racial status. My great grandfather is said to have fathered multiple illegitimate children. The caste of a mixed (Sanskrit: मिछलित, Michhlit) caste child is assigned to the caste of the parent that is lower.

It doesn't happen in the West anymore.

Note there's a difference between a lower caste and an untouchable. Untouchables are to be excluded from all human physical contact except from their own and are to be kept isolated where they can work.

This Hindu caste stuff is so fascinating to me. Seems so complex and multi-layered. Is there a central doctrine that dictates all of this, or do all Hindus just know the "rules", for lack of a better term?

Yes, the मनुस्मृति (Manusmriti, Laws of Mankind) written by scholars of the Gupta Empire in 400 CE outlines the Hindu social system and Hindu law.

Most Hindus have not read it, but priests read it. And the knowledge is passed down.

sacred-texts.com/hin/manu.htm

Huh I knew about the manusmriti but hadn't seen one in real life.

this bolly thread has been funny to watch, thanks lads

The prime minister, Narendra Modi is of an oil selling caste, aka an OBC 'backward' caste.

Marrying outside your caste is very rare. Something like only 11% of women do it. And the vast majority of marriage adverts explicitly mention caste.

It's changing somewhat for urban and foreign Hindus, who care less, but caste has still been added as a protected characteristic to the English Equality Act.

>This Hindu caste stuff is so fascinating to me
Imagine you born as an untouchable and are fucked life-long for something you have no control over. Must suck.

>Marriage is forbidden
Is that the only restriction? Or do you consider those foreigners "impure" (like in Islam) or something like subhumans? Do you view someone born into non-hindu family as punishment for his/her deeds in prev life?

>Imagine you born as an untouchable and are fucked life-long for something you have no control over
How is that any different from being a peasant in Medieval Europe, or a serf in Tsarist Russia? At least Indians are honest about their hatred for those they deem to be subhuman.

Realistically, how is it different to being born poor in any other country?

For all the talk of egalitarianism, what chances do poor kids really have?

Daily reminder that Common Era is stupid. Its either before or After Christ, everybody knows that.

Based indeed

>For all the talk of egalitarianism, what chances do poor kids really have?
Untouchables in India are viewed as less than human. Fundamentally corrupted souls, who must atone for the sins of a past life by cleaning shit and doing other dirty, degrading jobs. In the past, they could be killed for just stepping in the shadow of someone of a higher caste. It's laughably naive of you to equate their lifetime of miserable suffering, to what working-class people in British council estates have to go through.

Why do you hate dalit so much? If I were a dalit I would not rest until every uppercast scum is hanging.

Peasants were like the 90% of the population. Nobody hated them, they had rights too. You could marry a peasant, but it was kinda pointless. They could join the clergy or the army and earn nobility.

Why don't they just convert to Islam?

I don't hate them, I've friends from that community. The caste system is dead for most of us in issues not pertaining to politics or marriage.
>kill every upper caste scum
That's what literally happened. Some of the most bloodiest warriors who converted to Islam from Hinduism were lower castes fed up of being discriminated. Lots of them served in the EIC and helped them take down the Indian Empires completely.

Today the issue is political. Lower castes get quotas and free handouts from the government. I oppose that.

>Some of the most bloodiest warriors who converted to Islam from Hinduism were lower castes fed up of being discriminated. Lots of them served in the EIC and helped them take down the Indian Empires completely.

So Pakistan is just Dalit county?

>have money
