Do people care if one spouse is Hindu and another is Muslim, but no one forces the other to change?

Women were considered liabilities and arranged marriages were simply a transfer of a liability. (Hence the dowry part.)
When a girl girl gets her first period, rituals are performed ( kinda like a birthday party ).
The word spreads about her reaching puberty. Soon suitors within the closed groups approach her parents.
Her parents evaluate options and decide on the best suitor.
The families visit each other with a shit ton of goods (fruits,flowers, sweets, you name it! )
On the day of engagement, dowry is negotiated and agreed upon.
On the day of marriage , the girl along with her dowry is sent with the groom.

Marriage is forbidden. For both men and women. It's not followed well in modern times especially in the West, where an Indian is marrying a foreigner and Sanskrit hymns are being recited. One of those hymns HAS to deal with the caste of the bride and the groom.

High caste Hindu men are allowed to keep lower caste women as "courtesans" but they must not marry them otherwise they will lose their racial status. My great grandfather is said to have fathered multiple illegitimate children. The caste of a mixed (Sanskrit: मिछलित, Michhlit) caste child is assigned to the caste of the parent that is lower.

It doesn't happen in the West anymore.

Note there's a difference between a lower caste and an untouchable. Untouchables are to be excluded from all human physical contact except from their own and are to be kept isolated where they can work.
