There’s literally no place in this solar system, or even more likely within our star cluster, that’s fit for humans. Any extraterrestrial colonies that develop will have to do so potentially hundreds of (light)years away and with no contact to home.

People can live in space inside space station which provides a life support system. But space station need resources and therefore self sustaining space station can't be established in empty orbits. But if we have right technology, self sustaining space station/base can be established in planets which maybe don't have good condition for life but can provide resources like water/ice, carbon compounds and building materials. So for inter planetary colonization it is the base which should have life supporting conditions, planet is there just to provide resources to maintain that base.
