A few months ago, some UHNWI contacts in the investment/VC had begun to get very excited about one of Jow Forums's favorite coins (I learned in hindsight).
They have more of a solid tech background than myself as my specialty has been on Wall Street and some of the more promising emerging markets for the duration of my career thus far. They were raving on and on about how there will be more smart contracts in existence than there ever would be websites on the globe. I told them respectively I have my reservations on their claim as there are well over a billion websites in the globe. They countered with strong conviction that this will occur in less than 5 years. They ardently believe some of the DARPA projects concentrated on artificial intelligence programming will soon make its way to be utilized to re-invent new payment models and value ecosystems. And the blochain in their eyes will be the cornerstone to cement this as the reality of our future.
It was explained to me in layman's terms that the blockchain networks which go to achieve sizable traction will be as wealthy as some of the most successful Fortune 500 Companies in a few years.
I was halfway awestruck and partially felt as if my time had been wasted. Here I am, eating dinner with two very successful men, and they are talking to me on the future of financial system and a hidden need for an oracle solution.
After a few bottles of wine, they started talking about the cypherpunk communities in late 80s/early 90's and the mythical 'God Protocol' and its implications for humanity. I was fascinated by the concept. But again, I remain skeptical.
They left a lasting impact on me that night. I ultimately hired a Data Scientist to scrap whatever data on the Web on Chainlink. He ended his analysis was saying Chainlink is the second most discussed topic on Jow Forums behind Bitcoin (Ethereum is respectively 3rd).
