Absolutely, there would be a pretty harsh transition phase, especially when it comes to retirement, as the number of young people having to pay for each person retiring is getting lower.
But the alternative is just so much worse, artificially strengthening birthrates through immigration and trying to boost the economy by people who to a large extent have little chance in a first world industrial country.
