because they cheated and stole clay from norway fucking danish jews helvete
because of Grönland
Greenland was stolen from Norway.
The only stealing that happened here was Sweden stealing Norway, just because they chose the winning side in a war that had little or close to zero impact on Scandinavia.
Sweden could have taken both Greenland, Iceland or Faroes but they were either to oblivious of their existence or didnt want to bother with it, since it is completely dreadful territory that even today is pretty useless, including Iceland.
No one stole anything , Norway was by far the weakest country in Scandinavia for 600+ years and for that they lost their independence for a big amount of time and all their overseas possessions, just like Denmark was weak from the 1600s and lost a third of their country.
FEAR THE STROOOOONG!
this
Sweden also became weak at some point... we all become weak at some point.
wayyyyy later.
i would say your decline started in 1720, about a 100 years later than Denmark
1808, I wont go any lower.
Stop extrapolating, the unions lasted 500 years. Before the kalmar union we were a strong enough regional power
Other than that, you're right. Norway was weak so we lost Iceland+Faroes+Greenland, Denmark was weak so it lost Skåne, Sweden was weak so it lost Finland, and so on.
I'm not the user you replied to by the way
>danmark is the largest eu
this cant possibly be real, wtf? maybe with greenland territory? i thought greenland ran itself? is there even any functional infrastructure and industry in greenland anyway? this reminds me i want to visit greenland, i wonder what do people do there all day.... just hope it isnt an asian fishing shithole, that would really suck, if it was just another continent side empty eskimo fishing village
> just hope it isnt an asian fishing shithole, that would really suck, if it was just another continent side empty eskimo fishing village
you already knew
yeah its true mixing up the Kalmar Union started in late 1300s and not 1200s.
In the late 1200s Norway was definitely a regional power. One of my favourite parts of Scandinavian history was when Erik Præstehader helped the men convicted for killing the danish king, raid the danish coast and then occupied and fortified a small island in the middle of Denmark for 20 years.

The small island had 3 different fortifications and a coin mint used for counterfeiting.
fugg.. wonder if one broke man can get to it, start some basic machine tool industry, start building precise machining tools too, start building boats and agri mechanization, find a mine or two, try to build up a modern industrial capacity from there on, steal arctic oil and refine in, sell it to dumb energy dependant euros as gas, start a real country up there without gypsies, muslims etc
Speaking of the 1200s, the norwegian annexation of the so called Icelandic free state in 1262 is only briefly mentioned in Norwegian history books, while they go on and on about Denmark-Norway and the Kalmar union 1397-1523. It's a fucking disgrace - they even try to paint it as a "fair trade" between the icelandic chieftains and Håkon IV (the king of Norway in 1262) when in reality it was just an annexation-with-benefits. And I graduated HS 3 years ago so my memory is fresh enough.

Doubt
We have special forces patrolling the ice cap and coast and i think they are talking about selling the mines and minerals to chinese companies
>steal arctic oil
Now stop right there, buddy.
If there's two things Norwegians are good at, it's getting oil and traversing freezing landscapes.
Inuits won't stand a chance.
im stealing the arctic oil in my 1 man operation, fren
still didnt figure it all out but trust me im stealing all the arctic oil once i get my shit organized
Difference being that Denmark lost to what recently was more a less its vassal, whereas Sweden lost to fucking Russia. There is virtually no way in hell that we could've beaten Russia, it's just not feasible. Whereas Denmark more certainly could have defeated Sweden.
It all comes down to not being good enough though. All 3 of us done fucked up with our former territories and yet we're here today with our own countries still intact, while being the best friends we've arguably ever been.
>we're here today with our own countries still intact
At least there's something positive to come of it I guess. Though, considering Denmark's long lasting status as a regional power and Sweden's ,although short-lived, status as a great power, I can't help myself but to think what we could've achieved had we not been infighting.
We were robbed of the chance of unifying by nervous European powers who didn't want a Germany v2.
Oh and I might add, Norway spent a century or two as a regional power aswell, after our civil war period had finally ended in the early 1200s. From ~1220 until 1397 the Kingdom of Norway was quite powerful and expansive. After the union we just kept losing power to Copenhagen, and after 1523 our fate was pretty much sealed. Before that though we actually were a regional power.
Sweden is definitely the most succesful of the Scandinavian countries, historically speaking. But i dont think Denmark could have beat Sweden during those crucial wars. Denmark always had the upper hand at sea, and that succes is also partly down to Norwegian sailors and admirals. But on land Swedens army reform and organization were miles ahead of Denmark which has relied on German Mercenaries since the Northern Crusades, plus being self-succient on iron and copper is also a factor.
greenland is canadian clay
Not everything comes down to battles, though. The best wars as those you don't have to fight.
Perhaps if someone with a little bit more finesse than Christian II had led the union, the falling apart might not have happened. Furthermore, Denmark having to suffer the disastrous treaty of Roskilde and later the slightly less disastrous treaty of Copenhagen very largely comes down to pure chance. The Swedish army got freakishly lucky when it managed to march across the belts and threaten Copenhagen. A few days earlier or later and the ice likely would not have held up. Imagine that, the entire Swedish army sunk the bottom of the sea. There would've been nothing stopping Denmark from reasserting its rule.
