Gaelic Irish celtic culture is by far the most interesting. Our religion and mythology is the only one to semi survive and we had unique laws and such

Not true. The statistics for Welsh only ask if anyone can speak it at any level. The census for Irish on the other hand that most people use are the significantly lower percentage of people who use it as their primary tongue.
If we use the same criteria for asking people of their fluency in Irish as you do in Welsh than the numbers come around to 1,835,224 speakers in the Republic of Ireland, along with 109,109 in the north, adding up to close to 2 million Irish speakers. While there are only 562,016 Welsh speakers in Wales.
