/Lang/ is currently short on those image qts, so if you can pitch in to help create one for a given language, don't hesitate to read the OP; nobody embeds anyway and I just want to say I don't hate that chino faggot all that much anymore pass!
FAQ: >How do I learn a language? What is the best way to learn one? How should I improve on certain aspects? Ideally take a class, otherwise buy (torrent) a well-received textbook for your language, google any grammar you have trouble with and no matter what do lots of translation exercises >Will I learn a language by using Duolingo five minutes a day while taking a shit No >I'm going to use Duolingo anyway If on your phone, use the mobile site and NOT the app; the latter lacks many important features and doesn't let you turn the word bank off which should always be off. In addition don't copy-paste or memorize answers for the sake of completing lessons, and as above, google anything you don't understand >Should I learn X to get a qt wife/gf (male) etc? No >Should I learn lang Y so I can learn lang X? No
>What language should I learn Not German >I just want something easy and somewhat useful Not German >I want a language that's useful and fun but not too hard Not German >I want a language that's useful and embrace a challenge Not German
Stop learning German ffs, everyone does it, it's the most studied lang in /lang/ reee be a bit creative

En del norrbaggar använder den för att den inte knulas av 4kanalen. Dock har den ett legitimit bruk i danskan för att markera lång vokal i vissa ord, t.ex. gǿr ("skäller" (om djur)).

lmao a dumbass in the previous thread literally said dutch is harder than german
>Not really, Dutch grammar is very nuanced, you can say something correctly but it sounds wrong and you have to memorize all these exceptions to sound native. German is easier because the rules are straightforward. And my friend tried to learn Afrikaans and tried speaking it to a girl and she told him he sounds weird, that they say things a different way, but there's no clear rules, you just major exposure.
it's obvious this dumb fuck never bothered to learn any german for that matter

Do you want to know what the most garbage language is?
Aramaic, because one billion people are born into the belief that their language of one million speakers was literally spoken by God on the earth, including themselves, and they cast it to the wind like a pile of burnt scraps of paper and papyrus. I thus have the misfortune of sharing a native language with such people, the only nation which cannot read and write merely twenty two letters that have been used since the heydays of the Roman Empire. Ingrates who, misled by the prince of darkness, believe they are above that which they are beneath. Their extinction may be a bitter pill, but if the world must be flushed into the drain for light to befall this planet once again, let it be so.
what's with the dubbing autism of hungary, czechia and latvia? is it even financially viable to dub everything for only a few million people? also i would imagine with those pop sizes there are comparatively few voice actors so you must hear a lot of the same voices over and over. subtitles seem much more viable for them.
And Allochtoon posts every now and then, don't worry. It's early morning yuro time (6:16 AM for me), he'll come back.
Evan Hill
>is it even financially viable to dub everything for only a few million people? You answered your own question >also i would imagine with those pop sizes there are comparatively few voice actors so you must hear a lot of the same voices over and over. This is how it works here when children's shows are dubbed. Same voice actors (some really talented btw) are just hired to mass record as many lines as they can in a day and the cost isn't too grand. I can imagine it's very much the same for the cunts who dub E V E R Y T H I N G, because having thousands of voice actors just for vocal diversity isn't really viable.
James Howard

Egil does not have food at home. Therefore he goes to the store to shop for food. He skis to the grocery store. The store is uphill. It is hard to go to the store. In the grocery store, he buys cheese, sardine and healthy bread. Afterwards he goes home. His house is downhill. It is easy to go home.

Language learning is such a niche skill. And most people completely fail at it. Even whole states are unable to teach students foreign languages. It's a kind of black magic juju that anyone ever learns a foreign language at all. Especially with the market saturated with snake oil.
>most people completely fail at it most english speakers that is it takes some kind of obsession to learn a language properly, some force of will, wich americans will lose in a month or less thinking everyone else learnt their language in a day.
Samuel Jackson
Oh is it already time to ruin the thread with autistic screeching about americans?
How good is the average Spaniard's English post high school?
Easton Taylor
id rate it 6/10 the ones that are nerds have a better english from using the internet, i feel that schools fail to teach the most important thing, wich is conversations
Jacob Morris
>i didnt even say america, im just talking about lazy english speakers >wich americans Also if your second language is English and learned it at a young enough age where you just absorbed all of it you're not really any better than 'monolingual brainlets'
Also it's spelled which, fuck
Jason Wright
Also prob depends on your school. My friend went to an English speaking school in the Philippines before moving to the US and was able to speak perfect English.
Alexander Williams
in 3rd or 4th year of elementary you are allowed to join "bilingual" class, wich means one of the 3 classes for that year will attempt to be completelly in english those guys are wayyy better than the average. also young people in general are pretty decent at english, compared to the old fucks that were taught french instead.
Daniel Martin
My wife Chino thank you very much! hi can ypu also translate to German? thank you very much in advance!
>Also if your second language is English and learned it at a young enough age where you just absorbed all of it you're not really any better than 'monolingual brainlets' how is this an excuse? english is just as hard as any other language, in fact the pronunciation is way harder than most languages. chino means "male chinese" in spanish lol is it a trap ?
Connor Morales
>how is this an excuse? english is just as hard as any other language, in fact the pronunciation is way harder than most languages It's the age you learn it. As a kid your brain is extremely plastic and you can pretty much skip learning what goes into a language, you just "know" it from constant exposure. My German is about B1 and I understand what goes into German grammar/pronunciation rules significantly more than English since I learned German as an adult
Christian Perez
chino is also a name in Japanese. it is anime character chino
I am thinking of learning a Middle East language but can't really decide which. Any suggestions? I am from Greece, and I know German, Dutch, Czech, Croatian and English.
Mason Thomas
Does anyone know where I can find reliable language exchange partners for upper intermediate levels? Unfortunately my first language (Arabic) isn't very sought after, and those who claim to want to learn it on interpals or Hellotalk are flaky as hell and only like to say they are learning a language than actually doing it.
I've always enjoyed German and I will still pursue it for the fact alone that it is fun. I still learn Spanish and Japanese on the side. That being said, Japanese is a real bitch and I always want to use other words in its place.

People here unironically behave like entitled cunts when it comes to media, they expect everything to be dubbed. If a movie comes out with subs only, they don't watch it, so there is no choice but to dub everything. It also feels like most people have an aversion from the idea of reading, and studies in education show that around 20-30% of the population of the country are functionally illiterate. The average Hungarians's English is so bad that they avoid every contact with anything not written in their native language.
The quality of the dubs used to be really good 20+ years ago, but nowadays it is extremely poor. Also, if you don't live in Budapest, don't expect to be able to watch a movie in its original language, if you're lucky, you get a few screenings a week starting from 10pm.

Unde-ai fost
Elijah Perry
Yea but that's almost the same here. I don't think there's anything bad about that either to be honest. Most people don't need English, so why should they learn it?
Juan Phillips
Being restricted to what happens in your own incestuous shithole really takes its toll on one's perspective on life, keep in mind there are less than 10 million citizens here. In addition, if you have no idea as to what's going on anywhere else in the world, you have no choice but to accept the shit you are fed by Orbán and the like. Many companies want employees who speak English, it's not like China or Japan.
Jeremiah Robinson
>voice-over Sounds even worse than dubs.
Ethan Thompson
Everytime i watch a show and they do voice-overs i just get really annoyed, especially if you can still hear the English voices
