Where I used to live in a fairly big city it was fine to not have a car, public transport was pretty decent and you could safely bike most places. Now I live in a much smaller town in the south east and everything is clearly built around having a car. So many job opportunities I can't even take to earn enough money to get a car because I need a car to get to those jobs, and even if I wanted to bike it there are no sidewalks or bike lanes to do it once you go far enough out. I can go roughly 6 miles max in any direction on a bike before I run out of sidewalk or safe places to ride, and that's only in certain directions. If I head north east I can barely go a mile before it turns into a highway road for instance. There is zero public transport. Feels bad.

I'm the only one of my friends in this city that owns a car. If you have a car at a young age you're taken for a simpleton who lives with his parents and never went to college.

I live in London (never mind the flag), not somewhere where people wear leaves for shoes.

Having said that I do misa driving, not least of all not having to take the same mode of transport as non-europeans.
