In the 90s the things said on tv had some big importance, you had to make it to tv to be famous. People used to refute anything related to big promiscuity or homosexuality (aids).
The clothes were very colorful, the technology was something a little expensive, the cool products usually used to came from Japan (my friend had a japanese minigame to shoot penalty kicks), there was the Laser Discs too (google it) to watch movies, very expensive.
If you wanted to have mad fun you would go to a bar to smoke, drink, internet was not a thing to give you a home confort like today. People usually used heavy drugs or search sex to fill the void.
Radios were bigger than now.
Nothing from another world, I think the biggest point was less internet.

Everything still relied on TV, snail mail, and landline phones. :^)
