I think if we ever got heavily into soccer and had the same athlete farm we do for football, basketball, etc that Europeans would go all hipster and start making handball or something even lamer their national sport.

I can understand why Baseball, or UFC, or Volleyball, or Basketball is so popular, but not Soccer.

People here are slowly turning away from handegg because of safety concerns (muh concussions). It's also seen as a traditional and for a lot of the younger generation that's a negative, especially given the NFL's more rigid stance againts flag protests now. As a result professional soccer is more popular now than it has ever been, and will probably keep growing in popularity as liking soccer makes you seem more sophisticated and progressive.

Even then, as NFL football is declining in popularity (as is baseball), basketball is becoming the "cool" sport to follow, and soccer still has much smaller following than any of the sports previously mentioned.

This is a classic american argument, the beautiful thing about football is that athleticism matters, but a small stature can be beneficial for technical purposes, and pure talent and instinct is often more important. The last 10 years the 2 best players have been an athletic freak with the "eat, sleep, train, repeat" mentality, and a chubby dwarf who had to take growth hormones but is just naturally gifted.

I dont think all the black americans who play basketball and in the NFL would dominate. I mean there is a reason why all the freakishly big and tall people in Europe play basketball or handball instead of football.

Except we're not talking about 400lb lineman, we're talking about guys who have incredible athleticism, speed, agility, etc.

yeah i know, i watched the NFL combine once and the running backs and wide receivers are incredibly fast and athletic, but football isnt always just about running when you get the ball. You also need the awareness to know when to shoot or pass and how to position yourself, and that is not always something that can be learned or trained, some of the best just have an unexplainable gift. But of course if the US only cared about football they would be at a great advantage just because they are the 3rd biggest population in the world.

Blacks aren't any bigger than whites in America. In fact whites are actually taller. The "Big" positiions in American football are ussually mixed betweeen Whites and Blacks.
Black Americans are good for their speed and athleticism which is why they dominate the Running back, Wide Receiver and DB positions.
