Why is Ireland so historically irrelevant...

Why is Ireland so historically irrelevant? Every other Western European country except Luxembourg changed the course of history in some way, and Luxembourg has the excuse of being like one city.

Ireland played a huge role in preserving the knowledge of mankind after Rome was gone. Irish mercenaries were highly sought after for centuries. The Irish are also known for being hard to conquer without having the advantage of the challenging terrain. Ireland had been on par with England in terms of population up until the Famine. Ireland is also located far away from the mainland and the influence of more powerful nations, and lacking in any natural resource beyond agriculture, coal, turf and gas. Combine this with your only neighbour being Britain.
It could be hard for an American to understand at first since you are basically un-invadeable but when your entire country is under occupation or constant invasion, it's extremely hard to keep up with countries that are not, and are much larger than you

No it wasnt, certain areas were ruled by Normans and Vikings but at separate times with the Normans coming first. The Normans actually assimilated into Irish culture and became virtually unrecognisable saved their last name by the time the Vikings arrived. And the Vikings themselves held small patches at different times, eventually being ousted. It's been recorded that Vikings respect the fighting ability of the Irish since the Vikings had a much harder time staying in Ireland than they did in Britain

By getting invaded

The history of the Church in Europe would have been radically different without Irish monasticism.

>The Irish are also known for being hard to conquer without having the advantage of the challenging terrain.
You mean besides the natural moat surrounding them?

>but when your entire country is under occupation or constant invasion, it's extremely hard to keep up with countries that are not
You mean like how we were constantly being invaded and occupied by fucking Vikings?

>Ireland had been on par with England in terms of population up until the Famine.
>they had the same population as England until the mid-1800s
How is this even an excuse?

>A small patch of water is a significant defence against the world's largest navy, or before that Europe best raiders.
Like I said, at the time of the Vikings, Ireland and England had similar populations but with England having pre existing cities left by the Romans.
>How is this even an excuse
Because they managed to keep their population growing despite constant occupation, rebellions and campaigns that crippled the country. If you read up a bit about Irish history the conflict was absolutely relentless and they were always on the backfoot. I'm not saying they're the new fucking masterrace but they have nothing to be ashamed of, plenty of people have been wiped out from less
