Chinese are up to just under 2,000, a significant jump from the 250 on the island in the 2006 census but still only about 1% of the population.

It would be the first time a minority population stayed here. Remember thst NB and NS used to be home to the largest black populations in Canada, now you could live a lifetime in either and never see a black person, the all went to Toronto.
Immigrants don't like Newfoundland and Maritimes, even when you look at NB or NL, the majority of the non-white population are first nations, not immigrants.
