It'd take 4 years to reach the nearest star even if we could travel at the speed of light. What's the point of anything?

It wouldn't seem that long due to relativistic effects.
If you have faith: please God or some shit
If you don't: enjoy yourself while you're alive, and try to pass on your genes and bank on the highly unlikely chance that maybe your descendants will be able to perpetuate humanity forever.

I'm well aware, hence the
>highly unlikely
We can't really extrapolate anything (e.g. how right our understanding of the universe might be, what technologies might emerge, etc.) on such a long scale, so the chance isn't zero.
There's no point for everything
Why travel outwords when you can travel inwards much more easily? Keyword : "Artifical reality". Though I suspect that this universe is such an artifical reality for some intelligence to experience infinite possibillities and in the "original universe" there are less physical restrictions and thus have acess to trillions upon trillions the computational power we can realistically ever have.
Things will get shitty on earth eventually.

Maybe we'll discover some sick ass equations that give us alternative ways to interpret velocity and distance.
>you will die of old age before getting to befriend a lonely alien bro
We will actually know pretty soon, won't be able to know if its basic or advanced life though.
What if for some reason we were the only life.
That would be terrifying because it would actually mean were something special.
Meh, generation starships would be possible even with our current technology. You are just thinking too small.

We'll never leave earth because there's no economic incentive to do so.
It's far more practical to recycle waste than mine materials from the moon or asteroids.
