as far as i know russia was top 10 gdp-wise only in 1989-1993 period, in 2008, and in 2011-2015; so either it took some time for economy to crash, or crimea wasn't the real reason

Why not? It's a controversy. We changed our political system two times. In first time we destroyed all capitalists, all factories, in second time we destroyed government as a holder of capital and sold our factories. In between there was an ww2 with destroyed half of european ussr, that we have to rebuild without helping from outside (we even have to pay americans for help in ww2).
