Do they? I thought South Korea is rather neutral towards China and sees it as a big trading partner, while Japan hates China with a passion (and vice versa) and would rather see China destroyed, divided, weak and poor.

Also, Japan would probably support invasion and destruction of North Korea, because the less Koreans in the world, the better for Japan it is, while South Korea would rather annex it to assimilate local population and impose capitalism there to make a united Korea that could rival Japan not only economically but also politically.

It can all be traced to Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. Japan had strong cultural, and perhaps even linguistic ties with the Baekje Kingdom on the Korean peninsula(Yayoi people are theorised to have come from there). Said kingdom was conquered by the Korean kingdom of Silla and their allies of the Chinese Tang dynasty in the Battle of Baekgang, where a nascent Japanese state fought its first major naval battle and suffered its first major defeat. Since then, Korea-Japan relations have never been the same, and the Japanese would try to invade Korea as a launching platform for their eventual conquest of China, while the Koreans would defend against these attempts by paying tribute to China until they were finally invaded by a technologically modern Japan in the 1910. A lot of Korean resentment for the Japanese actually comes from this period of Japanese rule, largely ignoring their prior history.
