Jewish user here. Also, artist (credible artworld mechanisms behind me) Also, run production studio for jewelry (mostly to Sundance Film Festival crowd until now)
Going to market some contemporary rap style jewelry as art
Here is the social context, from two perspectives.
>On one hand, rappers love the idea that their new found money makes them somehow more cultured so they gladly buy into the "art" meme.
>On the other hand, rap is the most listened to genre of music in the world (Spotify data) if celebrated art is about cultural reflection, then the perspective appears to be a particularly potent source of sociocultural perspective.
How would I go about finding capital to make this? I’m an entrepreneur who’s fundraised for businesses before, but this is markedly different.
Hopefully we can all have a really productive discussion about the merits of the concept, and the ability to finance in this area.
In art, the sociocultural perspectives and social contexts you're referring to are better described as market gaps. To actually give your investors a return on this thing, you'd probably be better off searching for novelty in the literal imagery of it, rather than trying to imbue some kind of sociopolitical statement and build the work around that. That rarely gets over people. Forgive my ignorance, but you really seem like you don't understand art in a holistic way, and you're better off accruing those funds for someone who actually has all of their bases covered on the aesthetic front. If your name is important to you, then you get one bet on it. It's a crapshoot, and that's all being a professional artist is; you're not going to calculate yourself into greatness.
Michael Morris
>Sundance Film Festival just no.>contemporary rap style jewelry as art O definitely no
Liam Bennett
>smashing pumpkins lyrics presented as multi-media sculpture The absolute state of talentless hacks
Anthony Anderson
Fair, but the idea that I don’t understand art is silly.
I have two forthcoming exhibitions at real, and important galleries in Los Angeles. Interviews scheduled in HYPEBEAST and in Juxtapoz. This is the mechanism working on me, and it hasn’t happened randomly.
There’s no statement in the art, I don’t care about narrative work. What I hoped to describe is the relevence of the topic choice and the aesthetic power of the medium choice.
Hunter Campbell
no mention or turnover. margin overhead costs operational costs taxation jurisdiction capital requirements
All I see is the sundance film festival and something about jewellery
I can buy that in any carart by the meter at right now and findings such as clasps. You literally have no product.
Carson Flores
Not my work. This is from a contemporary gallery in Chelsea. Funny how many Jow Forums people caught that, though.
>???
Ethan Smith
You can think whatever you like about your art all that matters is the cost of production, your total sales and your profit margin and overhead. Otherwise its just your fucking hobby
Angel Wright
Your professional credentials isn't meaningless but it's not a reliable indicator either. That you're choosing a topic and building around that is ass backwards. You curate an experience first and let other people talk about the aesthetic power of that. It's a big scary bet, and if there was some magic trick everyone would do it.
Charles Reyes
And I don't need to know your religion.
Pls...fuck off.
Julian Morales
If I lead with that it looks like direct fundraising and the thread gets pulled.
Getting into new market, turnover isn’t established. Prior was doing 4-5 $2-6k rings a month.
Markup is 300% on the new work.
Cost is materials and some specialized labor. Majority of cost is materials. Probably 70-30
Live and taxed in sunny California
Need 100-125k production budget for the exhibitions. Assessed risk is fairly low, materials are immediately liquid if necessary.
Willing (and this obv has to be structured with the gallery) to pass 100% of the procedes of the funded work onto the financier. This is a visibility move for myself.
Eli Wood
You made this exact same thread before. I dont know what you actually want, but I want you to fuck off cunt.
Jaxson Flores
I'm pretty sure one of my great-grandfathers was a German Jew, and my nose has the hook.
Why is Jew physiognomy so persistent?
Jayden Brown
I want to hold public form anonymous discussions about it as a networking tool and as a way to work through criticisms before it matters.
Religion is bait, obv. Done intentionally.
>You don’t pick a topic first What? Of fucking course you have a direction before you make something.
Adam Myers
Fellow Hebrew Chaiming in. If you want to make money make white people your target audience. They have money and wish they were black. The smartest black artists target white audiences. Only dumb niggers make art for other blacks.
Charles Sanders
>I have two forthcoming exhibitions at real, and important galleries in Los Angeles. Interviews scheduled in HYPEBEAST and in Juxtapoz. This is the mechanism working on me, and it hasn’t happened randomly.
Not describing credentials. Deceiving sales events and publicity for the project I’m looking for advice for financing.
Forgot to add that one of the galleries has offered to set up a collaboration between myself and Shepherd Fairey.
Cameron Myers
>There’s no statement in the art, I don’t care about narrative work >Of fucking course you have a direction before you make something
Make up your goddamn mind.
Connor Perez
I recommend getting a black partner with an education and have him act hood.
Daniel Martin
It goes both ways and is done simultaneously.
One side sells the culture of art to new money.
The other side sells the potent cultural perspective of rap to the established art world.
Jackson Torres
>Shepherd Fairey You've got like six weeks before that's gonna do you no favor.
Grew up in Los Angeles, friends with gang bangers, friends with gallery owners, friends with mayors and chiefs of staff, friends with reporters and owners of magazines, friends with curators at MoMa.
Easton Robinson
It’s undeniably climbing the ladder. Regardless of feelings about his breed of street art.
WOW. Aesthetic and marketing direction isn’t equitable to narrative artwork.
Lincoln Miller
You need a multimedia/marketer guy? I'm in Canada now though, have dual citizen ship, born in LA.
Julian Taylor
Lol. Day job is brand strategy and communication for startups.
Joshua Hill
Damn those are some large milkers.
Sebastian Green
you just here to beg for cash from bitcoin millionaires? not a bad scam
Adrian Mitchell
What the hell u need anyone from here then, go make a presentable proposal and show it to rich people?
Owen White
Not soliciting here, asking for advice on fundraising in my specific arena. I do some networking over Jow Forums though.
The throwaway email I set up for Jow Forums connections is >[email protected]
Adam Long
I’ve funraised this amount before. Drop in the hat in tech. Different in “art” super speculative. Which is why I’ve formated my approach as analytically as possible.
Jordan Evans
Is it just me or did this guy come in, criticize the start of the conversation, ask for more information and leave before getting it.
Let's put it this way. Walk into a Gucci or a Vuitton outlet. How is that not built like a gallery? How aren't those pieces sold as art? What are you selling that someone isn't going to buy there if they had several grand to spend on something like that? You're trying sell an aesthetic, which has no intrinsic value, to investors with no recognizable product that people can plug A into B. And when you're called for your...unusual workflow, you start name dropping and getting all petulant. This is so fucked up, it's difficult to even begin unraveling all this. But fascinating case-study nonetheless.
Robert Davis
Show us some of your art.
Chase Ortiz
>How is that not built like a gallery? How aren't those pieces sold as art? It seems that you’re ignoring an entire social structure. While there are similarities, luxury goods and galleries aren’t directly equitable.
>What are you selling that someone isn't going to buy there if they had several grand to spend on something like that? Essentially a story. Exclusivity. This, admittedly is a marketing direction. If the social mechanism that uplifts relevant artists works on me (which, for reasons discussed I believe it will) then the group will naturally move to increase the value of the work, something that happens for almost no other “jewelers”
>name dropping Talking about available resources
Thoughts?
Daniel Thomas
>Show us some of your art >mostly to Sundance Film Festival crowd until now
New direction is miles away from old work so it’s nearly irrelevant.
Joshua Turner
So you’re not going to show us anything?
Luke Adams
If you’re hoping to see completed work that’s reflective of the series I’m trying to finance it simply can’t happen.
What would you like to see?
Matthew Rogers
Show us something similar then or something not in your series. I want see what type of art we’re dealing with.
Ethan Brown
I do have your mail, I am looking at what kind of risk makes business sense just expect to receive something by the weekend is all I'm saying.
Glad to know these public form discussions aren’t in vain.
Thanks for your time, user.
Jace Robinson
Your writing style is literally plebbit. Why would a kike come to Jow Forums to self aggrandize tacky art designated for niggers? Are you that much of a petulant faggot that your last resort is to come to Jow Forums and Jow Forums for attention?
Cooper Sullivan
Lol. I’m not really worried about critiques of my writing style. My goal is to communicate clearly and accurately. Some facets need lots of context and explanation, some are concise.
If the work isn’t for you, that’s fine, but there are very real mechanisms in the art world coming around to support me. And my personal gut feeling and analysis are that it’s worthwhile to pursue.
Reason for discussing on these forums is because it exposes me to lots of critique before it matters. I am networking now and teaching myself to respond to various levels of criticism when it matters.
Angel Cox
>plebbit spacing >self proclaimed kike rat >delusions of grandeur The soiylent trifecta. The only gut feeling you’re going to have is Ebola aids from taking to many nigger dicks kike.
Isaac Williams
Colorful, you seem like a catch.
The spacing makes sense on mobile, but I get if it’s weird on the computer.
Anyway, thanks for your time.
Mason Perez
pointing out that you're jewish, in order to goad people into bumping you, is the kind of thing that makes you an effective microoptimizer of literally worthless things (views on Jow Forums) but not at all a good businessman. it's important to not conflate the two, and to realize that your viral marketing skills do not transfer to running a jewelry shop or whatever the fuck.
nobody would invest in a business led by someone with obvious disdain for his customers. you'll never receive a venture return, so you'll never raise money from a venture capitalist, so just get a bank loan.
Charles Bennett
That fucking "art" (the pic) is some Monarch mind control shit.
Jaxon Watson
fuck off kike, nice reddit spacing you big fag u have to go back
Aiden Walker
>jewish user excuse me filthy kike, why to you feel the need to announce your religion? you're worse than a fucken roastie. i hope you get gassed you piece of shit.
It needs to bling, it needs to be 'unique', it needs to be black powah, it needs to be humble sit down. Dont try to think like the bix nood, become the the bix nood and aks yo self; Am I finna to get dabbed on? Then why do you feel the need to say you're jewish schlomo? stop being such a faggot kike and gas yourself. Fucking jew in JEWelery, I'm starting to connect the dots of this scam now..
>it hasn’t happened randomly. >I'm Jewish It's like you're pretending you don't understand the entire art industry is a racial racket of your own people
