The entire point of these programs is encryption. Meaning a third party won't be able to see the conversation if it's done right.
Say you're sharing a phone line with your family. The owner of phone line can ask to see text records. If you use encryption messagers, it won't come up.
Or say you're under some sort of investigation. Someone writes a warrant to your phone provider and they can see all your text messages.

The average normie does not give a rat's ass about encryption. WhatsApp being end-to-end encrypted is more for the benefit of Facebook so they don't have to deal with an endless barrage of warrants from governments all over the world.

What are you talking about? WhatsApp doesn't ever ask you for an email as far as I remember. You sign up with your phone number and when you want to talk to someone you don't ask them what's their whatsapp, you just ask their phone number, you add them to your phone contacts, and if they happen also have whatsapp installed then you can text them there.

Long story short, whatsapp works pretty much like SMS, but SMS never succeeded in our third world shitholes, or at least not here. WhatsApp made it easy to text for free, and today most phone opperators here offer plans with free WhatsApp messaging.
