what were the 90s like in your cunt?
What were the 90s like in your cunt?
first lost decade
wouldn't know
Great
YTV programming (all day, everyday)
Fox Kid's Saturday cartoons
POGs
Gameboy
Digimon: The Movie
Spice Grills and Aqua
Tamagochi
YOOOOOO!
Shit. Internet was slow and Tv had 7 channels. Only movies were better and at least there were no social networks / smartphones
something like this
youtube.com
Pretty great not gonna lie.
Everything unironically turned to shit during the 2000's
Best time ever
What turned to shit?
Comfy and mellow childhood years for me
Our entire cunt
I blame the internet desu, phones and computers are tearing our society apart.
Pop culture was getting hyper degenerate and nogs were chimping out. Homophobia was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
a cheaper version of Spain in the 90s
People were always idiots. Social network made it so obvious that's impossible to ignore now.
In most ways it was great. Really easy to get a job, tons of people got raises, the crime wave ended, the Internet existed but hadn't taken over everything yet, only problem was the shitty sentimental pop culture
Huge neo nazi revival.
>america in 2000s
>bush/cheney presidency
>9/11
>two unwinnable wars that are still on going
>destabilized an entire region
>massive deregulation that back fired
>subprime mortgage crisis
>great recession
>Katrina and it's poor handling
>super shitty healthcare
>reached a 10% unemployment rating
Barely the tip of the iceberg.
Based
Redpilled
Best time ever
You'd rather not know.
nah, nothing has changed really, you just spend too much time on the internet and meme boards in particular.
They were pretty cool but I was a kid so I might be biased. I know plenty of adults that shit on the 90s.
based and stratospherepilled
Did the glue huffing have any long lasting effects?
Please, tell me more.
I'm 19 and people my age don't interact like people used to 8-10 years ago. Everybody is so socially inept now and everybody lacks hobbies/interests because they spend their time inside on the internet or playing games. I hate this "cool to be depressed" thing, when in reality this generation is actually depressed.
This. Back then we had a small circle of friends/people we knew and interacted with BY CHOICE. And we had no idea what was on other people's minds. Now it is like personally knowing every retard around the world. Social media were a mistake.
>I'm 19
ok
Just telling you what it's like. Everybody seems sadder than they used to be.
But how do you know how it used to be? Do you think there were no sad/depressed people in the 90's? 80's? 70's?
No jobs. Jobs that existed had pennies for salary to the point of university professors earning money by buying cheap clothes in Turkey/China and reselling them on markets. Fuckton of bandits and junkies. Actual civil war.
Biggest economic deppression
Testing
fuck off grandma
m.youtube.com
War in Chechnya, depression, alcoholism, HUGE amount of junkies on the streets, mafia, economical disaster. Western democratic values was heard from everywhere, a lot of people still associate western way of living with 90s disasters
itt: boomers
Which soccer team is that?
most of it was the soviet heritage though. sure it got worse in the 90's but random street views from the ussr would be as depressing.
Menem lo hizo.
did you get married yet
It was very fun for psychopaths I guess
How Argies see Menem era nowadays?
He isn't completely wrong about the lack of social interactions due to social media. I have a younger cousin in high school out in socal and he's told me that kids use Instagram to interact with each other more than fb now and if you're gonna hang out with someone it has to be "for the insta" otherwise there's no real reason to hang out.
Extreme poverty and 25% of unemployment.
Just so you know, the OP literally made the thread because of this on /co/. Nice repost.
Russians are dumb, and they live in their own propaganda box. Poland was exactly in the same economical disaster in 90s like Russia but we continued to reform our economy despite huge costs to society in initial period. Meanwhile in Russia oligarchs were afraid of foreign investments and modernisation of economy because they didnt want to lose their monopolies, so they went different way economically and now Russians have problems that will only grow with time along with falling price of oil and gas
>how was the 90s in your cunt
I did it.
The V4 cunts and the Baltic states for the most part quickly entered the EU and embraced democracy and market economics. Serbia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia (arguably also the former DDR although it ceased existing as a state) failed to do so and convinced themselves that they were taking the right path by not selling themselves to Jews in Brussels, and thus all of them are poor crapholes.
>>>/reddit/
EU happened in 2004 but difference in model of development between us and Russia began already in 90s. The same with Ukraine. Their oligarchs closed countries for foreign investments and market modernisation because they didnt want to lose monopolies they had on markets. So they went different way than such countries like China or Poland riding on foreign investments
>NOOOO MY SECRET CLUB
Countries like Russia (also applies to China) wanted Western money and investment but the ruling oligarchs also didn't want to give up their power and adopt a democratic political system. China was rather more successful at it because they had a huge population and climate/geography advantage Russia did not have.
China is authoritarian only in political model, meanwhile economically they were always open for foreign investments. Russian model is authoritarian in both: political and economical sphere because oligarchs want to be owners of whole Russian economy, so there is fucked up situation in matter of competition on internal market which stops economical progress. Rapid growth of oil price since 2001 was mostly responsible for Russian "economical success" but in structural way everything still is like in 90s there
I'M A BARBIE GIRL
IN A.BARBIE WOOORLD
Which of course is not true at all because the CCP still heavily micromanages the economy and sets five year plans, and all Chinese companies like Huawei are affiliated with the party or the army, they're not really companies in the sense we think of them. Private property only exists as far as the state permits, and they can confiscate it any time they feel like with no compensation or right of appeal.
The Chinese system is more like Tito's Yugoslavia or Kadar's Hungary on a much larger scale.
Singapure-tier model of growth in China that mixes free market with central management still gives you a possibility of opening business in China the same day. Meanwhile in Russia you need to bribe half of administration and talk privately to Putin and his oligarch friends to open any major business
This. I don't see what differentiates china from the model the Tigers followed
>tf west Croatia
bretty good aside from all the refugees
There are some vague similaries to Singapore, in most regards China still engages in loads of oldskool commie practices.
China is "communist" only in anti-Chinese propaganda desu. They are fanatically nationalistic and their economy has more in common with XIX century capitalism than with ideological communism
>and their economy has more in common with XIX century capitalism
All possibility of rational discussion ended here.
Xi is changing things up now by purging the financial classes, essentially the approach in China seems to be that you're free to make money so long as you don't use it to influence politics, and fall in line with the general party direction
It is not my fault that you perceive this country through your countrys propaganda instead of facts
Xi is going even more full out commie, he presided over a huge celebration event of Marx's 200th birthday last May.
Seems reasonable. Their gdp per capita is only like 12-15k. Wouldn't want special interests squelching their growth before they escape middle income.
Stop paying so much attention to words and symbolics. Look at actions instead. Do you see "fight of classes" and "taking back means of production by proletariat" in China? Cmon...
It took me a while to realize that this was that CIDF Polish flag I was talking to. Never mind, didn't know it was that troll again.
Poland is doing exactly the same now what China does to escape middle income trap. Thats why we all of a sudden became "authoritarian country" in Western media
Just a side comment. It's interesting to think that as china develops into a fully developed country that it is basically going to be a doubling in size of the developed world. The populations of the EU, US, the rest of the anglosphere and the Tigers and Japan only just match China's monolithic population.
China has way way too many people to ever attain First World living standards, they'd have to lose at least 600 million people. Most of the population is surplus that consumes resources and is not needed to maintain current productivity levels. There is a thing called an optimal population level and they're far past it.
So what's the problem? You just need to succeed and take your place in the hierarchy, and not complain about injustice, like a miserable plebeian. Democracy is a great hoax.
Democracy doesnt have anything in common with Russian economical problems. Oligarchic structure of your economy does. But of course such oligarchs like Putin and his cronies dont want you to know the real situation because you would turn against them if you realized it so instead they tell you that your problems are fault of USA, NATO and democracy
Pretty much this. The level of worker ownership and freedom in China is below that of social democracies such as Germany or the Scandis. The main difference is that China maintains their stated end goal of a communist society. And who knows, maybe once they achieve a high enough degree of development they will make that transition, but for now thinking of them as the commie red threat is idiotic and a theme only spread by larping tankies and freedom patriots.
I have no any problems with the "oligarchic structure". Why should I care?
Russians generally dont have any problems with living in shit and poverty, it is just your model
Do you think that the historically oligarchical nature of russian society might be reflected in the economic models that are accepted?
My life is much better than the average russian or pole. What's wrong with inequality?
I dont know and i dont care. The only thing i know that Russians are too dumb to even understand why they are poor, not to mention fixing it. It is a historical feature.
>ein Jude on Jow Forums
It should be so. Most people around the world are stupid and deserve the worst. And they will even be happy for this.
The fact that you are richer in comparison with most Russians doesnt mean that your economy has an oligarchic structure. It means nothing in fact. Read all my previous posts in this thread once, twice, four times, six times, ten times, maybe you would finally understand by some miracle.
A crime and AIDS filled hellhole. I actually congratulate any white people that didn't run to Australia during the 90s. They're the toughest white people on the planet, no joke.
Lot of changes back then
Best years of my life really, we had the war and all, but we had incredible freedom, relative prosperity, we didn't have the retarded social structures from the west yet, you could just be a normal person and make friends with other normal people, especially on the internet.
Worse Latin America - tier.
Todays shape of Russia is result of communism. Most problems of postcommunist countries are rooted in previous system. In case of Russia changes that were done to nation are probably irreversible. Bolsheviks murdered most of their intellectual elite. What was left emigrated after disintegration of the Soviet Union. Nowadays the country is ruled by something that resembles a criminal cartel that regulates access to Russian market and keeps population in constant brainwashing. Hard to tell how it develops. Looks like it is heading straight to war
>Read all my previous posts in this thread once, twice, four times, six times, ten times, maybe you would finally understand by some miracle.
Reading p*lish post once is a great undeserved privilege.
Communism promised happiness and prosperity for everyone in the end. And thats what China is heading to ... only by using capitalist model of Singapure instead of Marxist model of collectivisation. Everything else is just words and symbolics.
