The library is pretty good, night life is the greatest after Athens but unlike Athens it's more condesnced so you won't have to leave the center, since there's a lot of things to do there.

Don't go in the city's beaches to swim (there is one in Kalamaria in the east side afaik) but outside the city there are some good places, like Epanomi. And then there's Chalkidiki, which is not that far away and has lot's of beach bars, camping areas etc.

You can either take the 69N bus which has not a lot of lines everyday but leaves you in Nea Irakleia which is in Chalkidiki or take the KTEL (bus between regions). The first will cost 1 euro and the 2nd which will get you closer to where you want to go will cost around 2,5 euros iirc.

You'll see the odd Paki or black person but they're not near the center, they are put in the west side, in the outskirts of the city and they don't tend to move inwards.

Been there, the city itself is generally an ugly concrete forest, but there are some really big impressive old monuments, the food is good and the people are (for the most part) ok. Life there would seem verg grey over the winter, the streets are more boring and shitty than an average D*blin street, although again it has cooler monuments then Dublin.
