Most illegal immigrants enter the country legally and just overstay their visas. The wall is a waste of money. He'd have a much better chance of getting his funding bill through if he just abandoned this stupid idea and gave a relatively smaller (but still significant) increase funds to the border patrol agency so they could hire more personnel and buy more equipment.

Yeah, and the money to build it would have to be pulled from the DoD's funding. Also, he couldn't "have it built now" because there would be legal challenges like when he tried to ban Muslims from entering the US and it took him several attempts and many months just to get a travel ban imposed on a handful of countries.
